<> <<(publisher and date of publication unmarked) by Willard McCarty>> <> <> <> I want to talk a little about the way we're going to be. We can all be really stoned in here together. There's over a thousand of us, and so there's a point of diminishing returns about how quiet you can make a whole lot of people be because it just starts making more tension. So there's gonna be a lot of things happening here this evening, because we brought this many heads together. Usually it takes, they say in tantric yoga, about twenty minutes for people's fields to completely merge ... like a guy and a chick are making love, it takes about twenty minutes for their fields to really merge together into one. And it'll be that way here with us, we'll get stoneder and stoneder as we sit, the longer we sit here the more our electrical energy will sort of settle, you know, like if you stirred up the water a taste with all this many people coming in and moving around and all gathering here and bringing whatever we've all brought with us ... and it settles. There's no telling what sort of thing we'll be into, because like we're here and we're who we are and this is what's happening with us here and now, and we'll probably fly around a little bit, you know, one sort of emotional state or another and we should all notice that being here is like being stoned, and that the karma's very fast, and any little idea that you take off on will sort of go a little farther maybe than you think it will. So when you think of questions and things, sort of run them through your head and think, is this the kind of thing I would come off with if I was really stoned ... . . And if everybody sort of runs it through that sort system we'll all be able to maintain a higher thing. Cause we can get high and have the kids and we can get high and have dogs around, and we can get high and have people coming in late, and that's cool, you know, we can cover all that because this is such a massive vibration here, so heavy that it can sustain a lot of that kind of thing. And we can even converse. And as we get all more together and know each other more and get looser and easier and more relaxed and more stoned, this will become more and more conversational as we go along. So that's the sort of thing that you're into now if this is your first time. How many people are here for the first time? Have a hit of that ... see? I guess the first thing I want to get into is tell you what happened when I was high Saturday night. I'd got into one of those low-energy places, where I was just there, no energy, tried to stand up, didn't have enough juice to stand up ... had to lay back down and get smarter. After a while I got a little smarter, and I started thinking about what Mahayana means. It's a heavy thing in differences in Buddhism, between Hinayana and Mahayana. Hinayana is that school that says Never mind anybody else, just get high, and Mahayana is sort of the school that says that . it's the greater vehicle. Like hina is small and yana is boat, and maha is great, and yana is boat ... so it's the small boat and the great boat. And the thing about the great boat, the greater vehicle, is it's the one that includes everybody. That's what's so neat about it. It's the one that there's room for everybody on it. So you can kind of tell where that sort of idea's at. If you've ever been in a group of people where everybody was like together and then something happened that split them, and there's that cold feeling, man, cause somebody's outside the energy circle ... .. and so then you do that thing that you have to do to get everybody included, cause that's the place where a lot of people realize that, wow, it's gotta include everybody. Cause if it doesn't include everybody you just can't get very high on it. And that's why I decided that of the Buddhism strain, Alahayana Buddhism is the kind I like most. It's also tied together with some other things, too. Aldous Huxley, I believe, referred to Zen Buddhism as a tantric Mahayana cult. There's an interesting idea. Because in Hinayana pretty much the major way to get yourself off is an individual exercise of mind and body ... but in tantric you get you and your old lady off together, and it's already an inclusive thing, because it's got two people in the bubble for openers. I think you blow better bubbles on a Mahayana first cause than you do on Hinayana. Like when you start a bubble, it gets bigger and bigger and bigger, and if it includes everybody it can keep growing indefinitely. If it doesn't include everybody, it gets to a point where somebody says, I'm not in this bubble, man you know, and then pop. There it goes. So you always gotta be sure that everybody's in them. Anyhow, this is the thought processes I went through finding my way out of this sort of low-energy place I found myself in. And I got high on it. Now I want to get into the idea of what is it about truth that makes truth important, cause there's something about truth that's really special ... So, think what is truth, and what is it that we're doing here, and what is it about being a man ... like, one of the things about a man is that a man is the only animal that has a choice to make about truth. See, a cat doesn't lie to you ... you know, if cats like your vibes they crawl right up on you. If they don't like your vibes, they're not too hot for you. Right? The thing about truth is ... God is I think trying to communicate with himself ... And he has, on this here planet, about three and a half billion transceivers walking around, babbling to each other, constantly, trying to carry the circuit load for that incredible conversation that's going on, of God talking to himself. See? And so there's something that's trying to be said too ... right, and so we have to talk and we gotta listen when we talk as well as when we listen, in order to discover what it is that's being said around here. I think actually that all of us here on the planet are all talking about the same thing all the time the conversation ranges from peaceful to violent. Like we're all having that conversation, and if you get to a place sometimes when you're real high, if you just shut up and listen you'll hear all of your thoughts worked out between the people around you who are talking. How many people have felt that experience? Yeah, isn't that far out? And you hear all the people around you just talking it out, and all you gotta do is just sit there, and listen, and they'll talk it out ... and sort it all out for you, and you don't have to say a thing. Just pay attention, and it happens for you. So that's kind of what God is doing. Well, we've got a couple of things going ... part of the thing with the conversation is that there's a little noise going on here on the planet too. There's a rather heavy noise-to-signal ratio going on, cause you have a lot of people who are trying to say the truth, and then you have a lot of people who think that talking doesn't matter That's a funny idea, that talking doesn't matter . matter, that's that hard stuff like this floor here. Well, things that you say do matter, starting at the most basic possible level ... that's a nice thing, a thing the semanticists got into, they called it the semantic reaction, and it says that, when you speak to someone, you can speak words to them that won't change them much, or you can speak words to them that will change them a great deal. And it has to do with things like the amount of energy and the amount of information that are in the words. Like purely conceptual questions can decide energy questions at the level of your brain, because when some-body says something to you, you get some noises come in your ear, right, you get some push-pull mechanical vibrations happening in the air, they come up and rattle your eardrum a little bit, and it rattles some bones, and those bones rattle this other thing, and this other thing's shaped like a snail and it has little wires on it in graduated degrees of length, like a harp, that are little-bitty cilia, little hairs like on little tiny micro-organisms, and they vibrate in tune with about sixteen cycles a second to about twenty thousand cycles a second. And then that little harp thing right there's a very magical thing, because it changes that mechanical energy. As those hairs vibrate from that mechanical thing, they vibrate that little harp thing, and it changes it from mechanical energy into electrical energy. And that electrical energy then goes to your brain ... dig, nothing's been translated yet, this is still noise happening, see, still pure noise ... . . goes to your brain as electrical signal, coded. It goes into your brain where it has to be sort-systemed by a piece of your brain that takes that noise and says, This here word that goes n-o-w goes up against all of the words that have ever been spoken of now ... you know, I make that noise and see how many times have I heard that, then I see what happened when that was said and go back through that memory sort-system of that word, and know what it means . then all of those connections that are going on in that sort-system are electrical. Then when we find out what the word means, if the word happens to have been something with a heavy emotional load to you, like for instance You're busted ... right? Wham ... a little electrical discharge happens in your brain, sends another little electrical discharge down into your body, and then your stomach starts getting tight, man, and your muscles start getting tight, and you say, Oh my god, I'm busted, what's gonna happen now, you know, and What'll my mother say, oh my, wow, what'll my lawyer say, what'll my agent say, all of that kind of thing ... what'll my dealer say ... ..And you run through this whole tremendous bunch of electrical energy discharging itself and changing around in your head that has to do with the content of the thing that was said to you. It's a semantic reaction, and the word actually changes materialthings in your head. And the way you have to balance your head to accepthe word changes you. There's funny things can happen about words, words are very very heavy magic. So everything you say is true. You only can think you can lie, but you can't really. If you tell a lie on the material plane your astral will cop on you. You see? If there's anybody paying attention you can't lie. You can only lie to people that don't feel vibes. But anybody who feels vibes . . . when someone's telling a lie it makes a certain vibration, and it says "lie." Other things that happen ... here's an interesting thing about a lie. It has a strange energy relationship about it, because a lie then is a piece of noise you make that doesn't really have anything connected to it. I find that if I'm stoned and somebody's lying to me the inside of their mouth is all black, and it's because there's no energy there ... It's a low-energy place. A lot of what the colors of the auras are about is how much energy is there ... like the idea of somebody who's in a bad place having a black and red aura? Well, the black part is just stone energy loss, absolute input, total ego, and the red part is the little bit they're coming out that doppler-shifts a taste and gives them a little bit of red ... . and that's about all you can get out of them is a little dull red glow, like a soldering iron that's going down. So a lie is a funny thing, it's a no-energy transfer situation ... nothing is transferred between the people. A lie then is just something that isn't. You don't put a moral thing on a lie, you just look at it and see what does it do. Then you see what truth is ... truth is accurate information. Well, that's kind of interesting that truth is accurate information, and a lie is inaccurate information, information not quite to be trusted. So then, considering what kind of a thing is the nature of truth, we wonder how come we have such tremendous respect for truth and how come we have as a culture kind of a heavy down thing on lies. Like a liar's not a good thing to call somebody. One of the names that they call Satan is the Father of Lies. And that's a heavy name. How come we care so much about that? No matter what kind of a trip it is, when they put up their eternal principles some people say liberty, equality, and fraternity ... you know, whenever they run up those kind of trips, usually there's truth in there, somewhere, because we respect it so much and think about it so much. I think one of the reasons we respect it is because of the high noise-to-signal ratio that we have here on the planet ... there are so many things that we say that don't mean anything. You know? Like what happened with Cousin Toliver last week ... there's a lot of information goes out about what happened to Cousin Toliver last week, and it doesn't make any difference what happened to Cousin Toliver last week except to Cousin Toliver ... and maybe his old lady. Most of our conversation that goes on is about things that don't exist, because they're in the past or they're in the future. A lot of our conversation doesn't have to do with here and now. Truth is accurate information about the here and now in the here and now ... I think that truth is the same as God, I think that love is also the same as God. Somebody said to me that it was like a pyramid that went up, and it only had one point, you know, only one point at the top, and that point was God and the sides are love ... and truth and beauty. Because true beauty ... . true beauty is a heavy one, like love. True beauty doesn't have anything to do with what you look like. You just sit there and radiate it, and be beautiful. It doesn't even matter what you're shaped like . - . not a speck. It's not on that sort-system. It's on another one, that's why beauty is so heavy in there. But the nice thing about truth is that truth can be aspired to, that truth is the one that you can say, Oh, well I can do something about that one. You know, it's kind of hard sometimes to find a handle for our self, to get ourselves high. I find that truth really works good. I find that if I'm sitting around somewhere and the energy's not as high as I like it to be that somebody's not telling the truth. The Catholic church does a thing about sins of omission and sins of commission . . - it's an interesting idea, that there's things you can do that are wrong and there's things that you don't do that are wrong too. Truth's like that. If you're sitting around with a group of people, and they're not copping to something ... like maybe there's a bunch of people together, and a couple of 'em really have something heavy against each other, and they're not gonna say anything about it, and they'll say, "Well, this isn't the time to do that." So they sit there and they look at each other and they know what they think, and they rev that together, you know, and the other people in the room wonder how come the vibes are so weird. You gotta look around and find out what it is - well, that's truth. That's a truth trip too. Cause maybe you have to say it. Sometimes you can just find something in the environment that'll help you out. Like I saw a trip once where there was a young man living with a young lady, and she was a high-energy chick and put out a lot of juice all the time. And he wasn't ... he was just ... he had so many holes in his bucket, man, that his bucket only had about a quarter-inch in it all the time. But he could stay on pretty good hanging on to her, until he started running her down ... started running down her battery from leeching off her juice all the time. After a little while she started getting down to where she wasn't so pretty as she used to be ... started fading a little bit from getting all too much juice run off of her. I was trying to hip 'em to it, and it was that question, because they both said they were sensitive, and they both said they knew what was going on, and he said it wasn't happening and she said it was . . and there it was, and we were trying to figure it out. And about that time the cat, which had been out on the floor, crawled up and laid down with those two people who were sitting there in such a way that the cat had its hind quarters draped across her lap and its fore quarters draped across his lap, and there was this flesh conduit between them there ... and there was so much energy flow between those that the cat went and laid down in the arc of it, because it felt so good, because he was dragging her off that hard. And I could point to that and say, "See what the cat says, man, see what the cat says?" And you can find something in the environment many times that will do it like that, to hit somebody with something heavy. One time there was a lady at my house who had ahold of a bottom of a painting ... a mandala, five feet across, that sits up above the couch. And she sat on the couch with her arm on the back of the couch like this and grabbed ahold of the bottom of the painting, and she was waving this five-foot mandala in extreme psychedelic colors back and forth a couple of inches, and to her that was subtle-plane. From where she was at, nobody she knew was sensitive enough to notice anything like that, because she's been getting away with it for years. And she was there like really copping the attention, waving a five-foot giant flag in the middle of the room. So I saw it happening, and there was so much difference between where her subtle plane was and where the ordinary one we had going in the room was that I had enough elbow room that I could collect everyone's attention in the room without her noticing and point at that thing till everybody could see that. Then when everybody saw that, I hipped her to it. And it was heavy for a minute . . - you know, it was heavy for a minute, because it was a subconscious act, she didn't know consciously that she was doing that because she has a piece of her head on automatic pilot to forage for energy ... you know, just rowr- rowrr-rowrr, whatever, and that was what it had found, on this occasion, as a way to get a little. And it blew her mind ... she didn't say anything the rest of the day. She just thought about that. Everybody always says, Well, man, I want to get spiritual, you know, I want to get heavy. Show me at it, you know ... which way's the mountain, and the hammer and nails ... (Laughter) Everybody wants to know how to do it right away ... you know, what're we gonna do . Well, there's an answer to that question, and it's the . the answer, the answer ... The question is, How do you get planetary? All right, is that meaningful ... how many people is that meaningful to? How do you become planetary? Yeah. What I mean by "How do you become planetary?" is, how do you reach the point where you know that you're responsible sometimes for the welfare of mankind, and that's heavy enough for you that it makes you straighten up all the time. I think that's what the real flash is. By planetary status, I mean knowing that you're at least up to having responsibility for this three and a half billion entity chunk of it here. I don't know how many other star systems with inhabited worlds there are, I don't put any limits on it, cause the universe is infinite in dimensions and directions, forever. See, you can't put any limits on that, but planetary means that you'll buy in at the level of the vow of the Bodhisattva which is responsibility for this planet. Cause a lot of people go planetary one time, and they say, Hot dog, I've been planetary once, better get somebody to go get the hammer and nails. But that isn't where it's at, it's time to settle down and find out how they did it so they can get a whole bunch of other people to do it. When we're at that place where we know that we are plugged in to the universe, then it is that time and that place to say, Now is the time to ask for the sake of man. And when you ask for the sake of man ... then we know what to ask, cause we know what the material plane has and what the world has, and we know about the things that are going on that happened to some of us. We know it's one man, one karma, we're all born and we all die. We know we have a few wars going around on this planet, and there is no such thing as a just war, cause there is no excuse for one monkey to kill another monkey ... see, we're all monkeys here on this rock, and it ain't cool for monkeys to kill monkeys ... as near as I can tell. I'd dig to get into more of a conversational place now. Anybody want to get into any questions about the thing? (Q) Living truth is really a gas, it's a stoner, I'm hip to it ... it's really a stoner. That is to say that, if you want to buy in on the truth, and live truth, you say, Okay, if I'm gonna live truth, then I'm gonna be a movie camera - . . there was a movie once called I Am A Camera, and you're one of the cameras for the akashic record, you see. You're recording the history of mankind, here on this planet, as it's seen through your eyes ... right? And you're also the narrator for that film, your thought stream is the narration for that film you're filming. And so you look at that film, and you have to say what you see that's going on in it. And if you let things happen that aren't true . you know, if somebody says something around you that's a lie, and you know it is, and you don't say anything about it, then it's your lie too, you just bought it ... and that lie belongs to you too. And the only way you can keep from buying that lie, to let go of it ... because once you buy a lie it's in your subconscious, man, you're stuck with it till you work it out, till you do something about it . . swallowing a lie into your subconscious messes up your wiring. So the only thing you can do to keep from buying that lie is to say, Well, I don't think that's the way that is, and for my opinion in this here meeting that's being filmed through these eyes I want to have it go on the record that I don't think that's the case." Or whatever words you need to use ... they don't have to be like, You're a liar, you know, that'll just get you punched in the mouth. But you can straighten the situation, straighten the record, and it's really incumbent on all of us to keep the record straight, because every time you let a lie go down in your presence your truth has been diminished, at that level, and then the universe figures that you tell the truth up to X point, but at X point it sort of overamps you and you can't do it anymore. You see, a lot of people's truth starts or stops at the point of the social difficulty of truth, which you can have sometimes ... telling the truth is not easy. It's easier than the alternative, but it's not easy. Sometimes I call it the psychedelic choke-chain ... you know? That's like got this little leash on around your neck with a choke-chain on it, like they put on big dogs? And you're cool. But if you start telling a lie you're running out against the end of the leash ... you know? And when it catches up with you, it says, Oh, that sounds awful, man ... (chk-k-k) ... And it brings you up short, you know, and then you get used to it and you learn how long the chain is, and you don't hit the end of it quite so hard. It's really a, you know, it's really a truth machine, as far as that goes, because it really sounds funny to hear yourself tell a lie when you're listening. (Q) Well, here's the thing ... the question is, why is it necessary that you speak of it when you see it, why can't you just notice the truth and not cop to it and go ahead? Well, the thing is that a lie is communication breakdown, and whenever any of us is together no matter whether it's only two of us or whether it' a whole gang of us, there is a quorum, there is a meeting happening there on the island among the monkeys, you see . . . no matter how many of us there are, there's a meeting happening among the monkeys, and the meeting is only capable of as much truth as is copped to. And that's why you have to cop to it. I know a lot of people . . . I don't know a lot of people, personally, but I know a lot of people who are around who do a lot of small talk. The reason I don't know too many people who do too much small talk is because I don't do much myself, I don't like to, because it's a . you know, you can break down the idea of truth and lie. Put that on a continuum, truth and lie, on a long continuum, so you can have percentages, and you can see some people that don't exactly lie, but they get down into a forty-nine percentile sometimes, and they seldom get much above fifty-one, just hang around where some of it's true and some of it ain't, a lot of the time, and some of it doesn't matter cause they're just like shooting the shit for a while you know, "Wanta rap for a while?" I don't ever wanta rap for a while, I just don't ever wanta rap for a while. That's a hard thing to say, but like I'm not a social creature, and I don't have any manners, because I find that manners hide vibes too much, and that social things hide vibes too much. That's that hard thing about how you have to come up and do it, how you have to come up and say it to somebody, cause that's how much truth is going to be in the meeting. (Q) The question is, do I think every person is capable of knowing the truth. Yes. I do think that every person is capable of knowing the truth. (Q) Can people think they know the truth and speak lies ... feel they know the truth and speak lies. I'll tell you, you can listen to people talk, and you can hear it ring when it rings ... it goes r-i-n-g-g-g ... or it says t-r-u-u-u-t-h ... you know, and ... you can tell what way really good. Truth is so heavy that you don't even need to say it loud very much, it's just that it's just that way. (Q) No, there's no difference between the truth and the facts of the matter ... that's exactly the point, there is no difference between the truth and the facts of the matter. (Q) Ah-ha. That's opinion. The facts of the matter as you know them are technically called opinion. Here's the reason why ... we're now getting down to the nitty-gritty of the thing. Here's how truth is so heavy. Questions like that, what are the facts of the matter, who knows the facts of the matter, how can anybody say . . - That's why you have a bunch of monkeys sit around and they talk about it, man, they talk about it and pass the word around, what they really see. And that's the time when truth is really important ... that's when truth is really heavy, because when somebody's trying to find out what's happening they really want to know the truth. Like sometimes I ask the question ... is such and such in the car yet? And somebody says, No ... it might be there in a little while - . . I say, Wait a minute, I'm not into a value judgment about why isn't it there if it isn't, or I'm not gonna pound a back about it being there if it is, all I want is the information, is it or not? Because I need the information for my computer ... and my computer doesn't care about the extenuating circumstances, it just wants the piece of information. See? So like when you're sitting around trying to find out what is the truth, then that's the time that everybody should try real hard for the truth. And sometimes the truth might be back tip in your head hidden behind a few layers of lie, and you might have to excavate to find it. But you can tell when you find it . . - you can really tell when you find it, because everything turns golden and light, and it gets pretty, and everybody gets beautiful, and all that ... the smell of nice incense, what have you ... That's what the truth is like when you experience it. And the way the truth is like when you be it is that you make every action the truth, every action is a truth ... When we were all saying O-O-O-M-M-M we were all speaking truth ... that was really good, that was a non-content communication and it said I'm here, I hear you, I'm here, I hear you, I'm here, I hear you, ... we're here, we're here, we're here. Very simple. A communication that doesn't have to be complicated to be heavy The communication that can mean that a person has achieved satori can be no more than a wink of the eye. That sort of thing happens with the Japanese, they're so austere that sometimes a cat can get on and know he's on, and betray it by nodding but a wink ... and never cop ... just bang ... I'm there. And then go ahead and be there ... hang on to it and be there. Like a cartoon I saw once, there was a couple of old Zen masters sitting somewhere, and one of 'em says, "Sheer existence itself is such a gas I can hardly stand it." (Q) You can't come on to people very much about telling them what their astral looks like, because I find that anyone who is pressed on a truth question tends to quit copping to the existence of the astral plane. They just say, I don't believe in all that. It's unprofitable to believe in it if you're a liar, it's hard on you. But you gotta like do it, you gotta pay closer attention and find where ... if somebody's messing around in the thought, astral plane, telepathic, all that kind of jazz plane, if somebody's messing around in that area and doing a little ... some people do subtle-plane cruelty to each other, that's a trip that people do on that level sometimes. If it's happening, somewhere it will manifest on the material plane . . because if you put enough of something into the astral it will sooner or later manifest on the material plane. So you watch very closely, and sooner or later you'll see it manifest on the material plane ... and then you say, "Look at that." Preferably try to get everybody's attention at the same time, so a whole bunch of people will look at that while it's still there, whatever it is. Then when a bunch of people have seen it, then you can talk about it. That's what I do a lot of the time. Don't necessarily try to call someone by yourself, if you're the only one that saw what happened, because then it turns into one against one, and that's ego confrontation ... and then you start generating so much ego you can't tell what the truth was anymore. But this is where it's really at, it's a one thing, and it includes everybody, all the time, that's the real thing. That's the Mahayana, the greater vehicle, the big boat. The Hinayana I think can be like a life-raft or a dinghy for the Mahayana, to get people to it sometimes, but the old Mahayana is the one that does it. (Q) No, it's not a duality to say there is truth and then there are lies, cause truth and lies are the ends of a continuum, and the continuum is one continuum ... dig? So it's not a duality. But you must discriminate about the order of the facts, you see. When you say truth and lying are a duality I think you're thinking in terms of a kind of emotional idea of the truth, and an emotional idea of lying. But we're not interested in emotional ideas of life, because that isn't real, it doesn't have anything to do with us getting it together. What we're talking about is accurate information given from one monkey to another monkey in order that God may talk to himself accurately. We're going to talk about a certain sequence, a sequence we go through in our head, and it's the sequence of attention, concentration, meditation, contemplation, and then . in the Indian model, samadhi, and in the Japanese model, satori ... and what satori is, and how you know it when you see it. Part of it is knowing what it is. First thing we gotta get into is like what attention really is, and how it really works. Each one of us is a fountain of energy, each one of us is like a valve from which universal life energy is metered into the world, and each one of us can point our self at whatever we want to. When you put your attention on me really solidly and understand what I'm doing and pay attention, then that gives me juice, that makes me able to be sure when I'm talking. Now attention's funny stuff, because everybody's gotta have it, a sufficiency of it, it's a human requirement just like oxygen or water, one of those. Everybody needs a certain amount of attention, and if they don't get it one way they'll get it another, and the need for it (baby shouts) begins as soon as they're born, and so they'll learn habits of getting it. Now whatever habits they learn are like photographic impressions of their mother ... flash. If our mother's attention wanders, we probably will have a tendency for our attention to just sort of flop around and go to whatever thing interests us. I see some people sort of lay back weakly, you know, and let their attention put this loose tentacle out there that flops, and if it happens to land on something neat they sort of applaud a little bit and say, "Far out." And they get to see some of what goes on, but they miss a lot too, doing that, because sometimes to know what goes on you had to have been in on it since the beginning. Like sometimes the only way you can know the content of a telepathic exchange is to have been on since the beginning of the bubble. You know? You have to have been on since the beginning of the bubble to know all the things that everybody else knows. That's the assumption pool that everyone can draw out of for that first cause. Dig? So that means that you have to be able to put your attention places. A real example of a thing like that was ... I saw a band playing, and there was a note, and by the quality of the note I wouldn't have been able to tell whether it was a singer or a guitar. There was just no way to tell by the quality of the note, it was just one of those real, out there, electronic sounds. But I happened to have seen when the singer started, and I watched her bustle in on the beginning of that note, so I saw, I knew it was her. So I got to watch her go through the sequence of what she did, and she he]d the note until she ... I guess she flashed, because she became transparent for a second on the stage. She was . . (mmm) ... you could see through her for a second. And if I hadn't been like plugged into her and noticing that from the beginning, then I wouldn't have got to see that trip, you know, I'd've missed that whole thing. But I just happened to luck out and catch the beginning of that bubble and go with it till it popped. We have to learn how to get our attention out, it's kind of hard for some of us, you know, to even find out where our attention is, because like if you've been taught ... Like I was taught by my mother to be able to read a book and watch television and listen to her talk all at the same time because she talked all the time and if I was gonna do anything I had to learn how to do it with her talking. Well, that gave me a sort of split attention, which was really fun for when I was in the Marine Corps and when I was in college and places like that, and I didn't really want to pay attention anyway. You know? And I could put a robot out there doing a thing, and I could be thinking about whatever I wanted to be thinking about (shoes clopping) That kid's getting about a quarter of a joint's worth of high out of each step. That's how attention works. Okay, then ... so you have to learn where your attention is, one way or another. One way to learn about it is to just focus it on something and keep it there. Reading something that has a mathematical progression in it perhaps or an Aristotelian logical chain in it, so you have to like keep your attention on the chain for a while That kind of thing can help you know where to put your attention. But the best thing is to notice that whatever you put your attention on you get more of, in the universe. You know, whatever you put your attention on is what you get the most of. So you can learn to concentrate your attention, once you know where it is, what it is, when it's turned up and down ... you know, when a piece of music is back-ground music and when it's not. I heard a piece of music the other day while I was really high that I hadn't heard while I was high for a long time, I'd forgotten how heavy it was. Like, I hadn't put my attention into it, I'd played it lots of times and never noticed how heavy it was, and then all of a sudden I noticed it was really a heavy piece of music. It blew my mind again. It really got my attention into it, cause it caught me, you know. So then you pull your attention down to being able to put it on something, onto a point ... get into concentration. Keep your attention on a single point as long as you want. You have to learn how to be loose to do it, it's not a thing you can do if you're tight, cause if you're tight your attention will tend to fidget. You gotta learn how to be just a loose observer. You have to really not give a damn too much about what's going on out there in front. You know, you gotta just look at it and dig it and see what it is and get the informational quality out of it ... Like you're supposed to groove. You're supposed to just really be grooving as hard as you can. There's a Zen master thing that says, Although my heart is on fire, my eyes are as cold as ashes. You know. So then you can keep concentration really well when you're not attached. That's a loose place you have to be to play music or to ride a bike or any of those kind of places, where you have to have that loose no-mind ... let it do it, concentrate it there, put it there on one place. Yeah. Then you go to what is actually a qualitative change of consciousness. And when you go into that you can really call that place meditation. Cause you're right at the edge of the subconscious. First time I ever knew I did that was when I was ... They say one way to do that is to think twenty consecutive thoughts about the same thing. And I was looking at a pair of pliers that interested me, because I'd picked them tip and they were little Japanese side-cutters, and they were a smaller size than American tools, and they were kind of neat, and they had that neat little foreign design thing to them. And they had a nice machine brushwire finish on 'em. And I was lookin' at 'em, and I was thinking about the pair of pliers that existed in the mind of the engineer who drew them. You know, he had an ideal pair in his mind, and then he put it down on a piece of paper, and I wondered how much it had changed from his ideal to the piece of paper, cause that was limited by like his artistic ability, you know. And then I wondered about how much had changed in execution, from being hammered out of a piece of bar metal and put into a little pair of pliers like that and polished down couple of little nicks in it, and I thought those nicks probably wouldn't be there if that was an American pair of pliers because they really are very conservative in their trip, and they run to very high standards, and they'd polish these little nicks out, but it's kind of neat , it makes them neat and funky. Because they're really good pliers, and they really do their thing. But you can notice that a human being had something to do with 'em. Somebody'd decided that that was good enough. You know? So I got onto a place doing that where I suddenly had just a drastic change in consciousness, and just went wham bang, a new place all of a sudden. And I realized I knew a whole lot more about that pair of pliers. And then I realized I knew a whole lot more about everything. Meditation place. In contemplation ... Contemplation is where you've already listened to your subconscious long enough that the stuff that's coming up out of it is cool pretty much now. And so you're not sitting there trying not to freak out at the contents of your subconscious anymore, you've got a clean head and you can point it onto whatever you want to point it onto. And you can let your mind go there, and you go into a psychedelic state. Now Christian for samadhi, by the way, is adoration. Adoration, satori, and samadhi are the same thing. You have in the Christian tradition things like pictures of the Adoration of the Child, and you have all these people sitting around looking at a kid, and the kid's sitting there with a, you know, all those power-lines going out from his head like that? Well, that particular trip is like babies are heavy like that. They just are. And anybody who wants to sit around a baby and look at him and pay attention to him can get high If you perform the function of, really of adoration, or really the act of satori. Because satori and samadhi are telepathic phenomena. Now here's how someone might have had to go to get to a satori, to get a little piece of relativity on what one is like. We have kind of a funny thing in this culture because you can take a psychedelic, and then you can experience satori, probably, you know, if your karma's not too bad you can probably just get kicked right into it for awhile, whether you notice it or recognize it or not. It may not even be the part of the trip you enjoy the most. Now a cat might decide, okay, I want to achieve this strange thing that I've beard about, satori or samadhi or whatever it is, I want to find out what it is. It's called by a lot of names. One of them is the mahamudra. Mahamudra is the great symbol. Well, being a great symbol, it's symbolic of a lot of things, that's how come it's a great symbol. One of the things that it's symbolic of is just that very thing of two people becoming one ... . Now here's another thing, there's a thing that Jesus said about Greater love hath no man than that he die for his friend. Well, there's a couple of ways to look at that, one of them is one of those "either/or" trips where somebody's gonna get snuffed and you do a thing for somebody. Another way that that thing means is that if two people are gonna become as one there's a pretty heavy ego death they have to go through, cause it means you gotta look at somebody and you gotta love 'em so much that you say, I don't care whether I'm me or you. See, and you have to really and truly not care which one you are. And that means that you gotta like really drop your ego to that person. And it means that you gotta do an ego death, and you can die for your friend. And if you can die for your friend and he can die for you, together, if you can die to each other, you can become as one. And that's what satori is, is when two minds can become as one. Because if you can become as one with one other person then you can become as one with everybody. But you can just start off with one person. And that's why it's the great symbol, because although the act itself is miraculous, of becoming one with another person, it's still merely symbolic of the other thing, of becoming one with everybody. Now you can tell when this kind of a place happens when there's lots of visual things that will go along with it. Like if you look at somebody and the, really want to get it on with you, you know, they really want to be straight with you, and you can tell they're really trying, and if you really assume their good will and really pour it out and really be as open as you can and say, Well, even if I've thought anything about you was uncharitable, even if I've thought that I didn't dig you or something sometimes, even if I thought I was mad at you sometime or another, you can look into my head and see that too. I'm not gonna hide anything .You can look into my head and see everything there is to see, and I'll look into you that way, and if we do that then we dissolve out all those differences. And when you do that when you really do it and equalize that with another person, then bang, you're automatically in the circuit with everyone. That's Christ consciousness. Christ consciousness is being in the telepathic awareness place of everyone, and like there's three and a half billion of us, of this particular life form-shape here on this planet. So we can't really see to recognize every one of those faces But you can see visually and telepathically some things, one of them being the vision of the thousand eyes. It as if you re looking into the inside of a sphere of eyes. And so you open your eyes into the inside of this sphere made of eyes, and when on open your eyes into it, all those other eyes open too, and you look into all of them, and they all look into you, and you all recognize each other ... and you all know it at once. And you just look, and it's just a few seconds long, cause it's too heavy to hold very long, but it's a gas while you can do it. (Q) About dimensions of consciousness. You can start off anytime you want to, and you can find out what dimension you're at and you can start off and say, Well, I know what no dimension is. No dimension is just a point. If a point had an inhabitant it could only say I am. That would be his total conversational possibility. That's it, I am. Then a one-dimensional thing would be a line with only length. For a two-dimensional thing you have like a painting, and then you can get into where you know what's beside you but above and below don't exist. Now if you're gonna know about the second dimension, the way you can really know what's going on in the second dimension is when you have a third dimension, cause when you're painting a painting you have a two-dimensional thing sitting there on the easel, and then you're out here in the third dimension looking at it from the outside, so you can look at the inside of it. You know, if you draw a circle on that thing, an inhabitant of that could only see the outside of that circle. But you can look at the inside of that circle. Right? So you have a viewpoint of a dimension outside that two-dimensional place. Now the next viewpoint kind of shift you can do is to move your head from the third dimension to the fourth dimension and recognize that the fourth dimension is time, which is to say the length of time that something endures, its duration, how long it exists is the fourth dimension. So if you look at something in a fourth dimensional way you see that things come together and exist for a time and a form and then come apart. Right? And that's the viewpoint you get from putting your consciousness in the fourth dimension, you get to learn that. Then when you're in the fourth dimension and you really know where it's at in the fourth dimension, the next thing you have to remember and to learn is that your viewpoint is always up one dimension higher than the one you know about. Right? So when you're hip to the second dimension you're in the third, and when you're hip to the third you're in the fourth, and when you're hip to the fourth, which we just got to, you're in the fifth, so here we are in the fifth, which puts us automatically in the sixth. Now dig, dimensions have properties, you see that's what the trip was, we got to like walk through those dimensions cause we knew something about the properties of some of them, which gave us some clues to the properties of the other ones. Right? Now the fifth dimension is the astral plane, or the lower astral I guess. I don't know, a lot of people are really picky about what they call the astral plane. Some people say the astral plane is specifically the lower portion of what I call the astral plane ... for me the astral plane includes both heaven and hell, you know, that it's all continuum, that it's all vibrational continuum, I don't break it off in chunks so much ... But some astral is higher than other astral you know. It's prettier to look at, neater to be in, better to feel ... that's how you can tell. (Q) About astral flights. I think the ability to do astral flight is concomitant on your ability to handle yourself in a completely non-space/time environment. Most of us tend to get a little freaked out when we go into non-space/time, it's like if somebody heaves somebody who can't swim into a swimming pool, and they're out there ... "oh, wow, what's going on here," you know And astral travel is, I think, a matter of your ability to control yourself, while you're on the astral plane. I think we get on the astral plane every time we get high. Every time you go into ego death you have a choice about whether to go back in your hod right away or not. At least that's what seems to happen and what other people tell me happens to them ... that you have a choice whether to go back right away or not. If you get a little uptight out of being out of your bod, then you might want to hurry back into it. But if you can be cool in that intensely relativistic environment, where your ups and downs and your probabilities and your . . everything, maybe your life and death, is all going at once and the probabilities are shifting, and somebody gets a little uptight, and that shifts something, and somebody else gets too elated and you get out of balance in that direction, kind of manic-depressive you know ... you can wallow around a lot that way. But if everybody can keep it together then you can get to where you're stable, to where you can like jam astrally. I think all of the psychic abilities are at our fingertips, if we can like just get cool enough to get past the little scary part there sometimes. Yeah? (Q) Question is, when your consciousness is expanded into God consciousness, do you then have the ability to go into future and past? Is that the same as going into future and past? No, it includes that, but it is not the same as. You see, one of the reasons that the astral is so intensely relativistic is that it includes all possibilities that will ever happen to you, or ever did, that are all going on at once, and you gotta sort out the probabilities yourself while you're there. But that's not like you travel from here to the past or travel from here to the future, it's like your viewpoint raises until future and past are all there. (Q) What exactly is your idea of meditation? Meditation is learning how to handle the normal thoughts that come up. So that's the process, it's like you sit there and let those thoughts come up and just don't get uptight about 'em. Let 'em happen. They can happen. In Tibetan yoga they say it's important to know that thoughts arise from a concatenation of causes. That is to say that a thought that just kinda pops up out of your subconscious can just pop out. It can be put together out of anything that's in your subconscious from all your life, you know, and you may have no idea what it is. You don't know why those thoughts are coming up until you get in full communication with your subconscious. And the way you got to get into communication with it is to not be uptight about anything inside any of it. (Q) He's talking about a place just on the other side of contemplation where you lose a lot of touch and consciousness and stuff going through. I consider that to be like the sheep dip that they run you through to wash your ego off before they let you into that telepathic range. Cause when you go into satori it's like walking into the radio-broadcasting room with all the microphones on. Right? Cause when you go into satori what you think is planetary. Dig? What you think is planetary when you're in satori. So there's a little place where you go through there where you forget a lot, including like who you are or stuff like that because it doesn't matter, and that doesn't need to be put on that channel. That channel's taking care of other business. All of our karma, for instance. (Q) Yeah, you can walk around in satori. In satori you can be in complete control of your bod and move and talk and all kinds of things. I think that anybody who's really been stoned a few times moves across satori every now and then. (Q) He says is it possible to have an unplanned astral trip. It is possible, but you don't usually do it . you can't do it unless you're relaxed, is part of the trip. It's awfully hard to get out of your bod when you're uptight because all that clenching and stuff messes up your astral bod, it messes up the electrical fields. The electrical field's gotta be at rest for you to pass free. So what is likely to happen to you in an unplanned way is when you're in bed or if you're doing tantric loving, and you get really stoned on the energy doing a tantric thing, you can just slip out of your bod from being relaxed. Or when you're going to sleep you can either slip into dreamless sleep or a weird lower-astral place sometimes where there's lots of honks and squeaks and moire patterns and weird stuff like that. Whenever I get in that one I usually just come out of it, you know, and arrange myself differently and try to sleep better. I don't dig the noise in that one. (Q) Yeah, he's saying he was sitting with some people and they came to what he would call an awkward silence in the vibes, and they had to sort it out, and when they got it sorted out they got a little bunch of energy but they didn't know what to do with it. One of the nicest things you can do with energy is just to make your environment beautiful. Because here's the thing about energy, you can't store it. We're not batteries. We can handle a lot more energy as conduits than we can as capacitors. So to flow it through . .. what you do when you have a lot of energy is say, Okay, I'm just gonna make everybody around me be really pretty. You know? And make the whole house look really good, and just pull her on. And if you've got enough juice to turn the house into the Taj Mahal . .. crank on. Go on ahead. Cause, you know, you gotta spend it anyway. So go ahead and get to it. (Q) How does the astral plane relate to Christ consciousness? Here's how it works on the continuum of astral planes. The lower astral, like if you had a puddle that had been stirred and it had settled partially ... well, the water toward the bottom of the puddle would have more mud in it, you know, and as it got up toward the top of the puddle the water would be clearer and clearer. Well, the higher you go up the vibes in the astral plane, the higher the vibration, the clearer the transmission gets, also the more strength of character and intelligence and will and love does it take to get into the higher and higher and clearer places. So when you get really high and really clear you're telepathing in very good company. But when you're just barely beginning to, you have to go through the lower astral, and in the lower astral you're going to run into like, wow, everybody ... everybody has a subconscious, and the subconscious is the no-no box, and it'll have, you know ,"gillies and ghosties and long-legged beasties that go bump in the night." So you just dig that there's this continuum of, of thing ... Now like Christ consciousness is way high clear, where you have to be really truly altruistic to get high enough to transmit at that frequency. You know, and that's like Christ consciousness. And then we can get there when we're like really stoned, because the stoneder we get the more we can let go of our material ego and our material-plane identity and stuff and the more we start thinking of us as mankind, as us-kind, this thing that we're all one part of, and the more our decisions become for the larger thing, as our consciousness expands it includes more of us. Astral travel is a lower astral phenomenon because it involves a mobile center of consciousness, but still a center of consciousness, whereas the Christ consciousness place is less a center of consciousness and more a centerless consciousness. And it becomes all-pervading and immanent and is completely all-encompassing, and so it's not a centralized thing. The astral travel is moving one point through the matrix. Christ consciousness is being the matrix. (Q) About astrology? Sure, what level do you want to plug in on with it? About how it affects you and what it's about, kind of? Yeah, okay. I don't think that astrology is strictly necessary to get straight ... actually. But I think that you can learn a few things that might save you a few bumps with it ... it can be useful like that. It starts off being all that stuff on paper, you know, charts and figuring out all that stuff. But where it goes to is a kind of a feel for the astral weather. You know? It gets into kind of a feel about where is it at, because like the sun really exerts a fantastic influence on the earth, magnetically, electro-magnetically, radiationally and so on. Like I've seen a diagram of the earth's field, which is like a normal di-pole field, it's just shaped like that, you know ... and then see a picture of it as distorted by the sun's magnetic field or by the solar wind as they call it, and it'll be all bent over on one side till it's right down to the surface of the earth on one side, and it goes away like that out on the other side. Because it's just like shoved right up to the earth by the power of the sun. And the field is tremendously distorted. So just day and night for a start is a very heavy astrological trip, whether you're within the field of the sun or not. Well then the moon is also up there, pretty close you know, only two hundred and forty thousand miles away, and pretty heavy, made out of a lot of iron and rock and stuff and a heavy electro-gravitational field, it's spinning around the earth and creating a thing almost like an electric motor and armature trip, making a tremendous powerful electric field putting out millions and billions and billions of volts of energy, which we call on our scale of energy zero. Because that's just where we come on for openers on this planet. And then all the juice that we put out on top of that, whatever that is, plus what it's like ... you know, each one of the planets is also a huge electro-magnetic thing and also bends that field. So you start with a field that's symmetrical and then it gets bent X amount this way by the sun, and then this much this way by the moon, and then this much this way by Mars, and this much over here by Venus. And then all of those things are moving, right? In different orbits. So that thing is changing like a kaleidoscope, that pattern of vibrations is like an ever-moving kaleidoscope, always changing, and so there's a different electrical field passing through all the time. And so you can learn to feel what those fields are like. They have kind of like flavors, and you call them by names like Scorpio and Pisces and stuff. Aquarius is the name of an electrical field, and when you're in an Aquarius electrical field things are kind of like a funny way, you know, there's just that Aquarius way that tastes like Aquarius. And when it's a Pisces trip you can maybe think ... I'm not that good an astrologer to like be able to like tell you where the moon is or what your sign is, because 1 haven't followed it myself as a discipline. But there's a little bit that you just sort of notice as you go along because it rubs off on you. It's not on or off on any of that stuff, it's all kind of like percentages. Then there's some of it that I think is like just on account of the symbolism of the various signs ... like Leos really tend to come on strong behind their sign. Leos get, you know put Leo coats of arms seven feet high on their doors, all that. You don't see Cancers putting giant crabs around on walls. So there's a little medium-message aspect in the signs too, that you have to pay attention to. The main thing is not to get hung up in a prophecy idea with astrology because prophecies are ... you know, I don't know whether prophecies are true or not, it takes more of my attention out of here and now to care about it than I care to waste on 'em. Whatever they're about. Even if it is Armageddon, I still haven't got time to pay attention to something besides here and now. Cause here and now is where all the goodies and the magic and the action's at. Prophecy's sort of a waste of time really, because like here's the thing, a prophecy is only statistically so, it's only a probability ... you dig. And as long as it's a probability then it's influenceable and movable by what you do in the here and now. That's why I don't worry much about prophecy, I figure that if I pay attention I'll just create it groovy ... whatever it is. (Q) Of course you're supposed to change destiny, that's what we do, we're all in agreement here, we have a mind-level agreement, but we agree about sharing out the karma. Like most of the people who come here on one level or another say okay, I'll buy in behind all fair systems of karma-sharing rather than having to go to the trouble of becoming one of those kind of magicians who's going to like try to get better karma than he's got coming, you know, attempt to try to manipulate and move the karma ... you just buy in behind the system and say, Okay, I'll buy in behind all fair karma, whatever it is. Win or lose. Whatever it is. And so everybody kind of like buys into that and says, Okay, we'll do that, and that way we don't have to think about that and be paranoid about that or anything, cause we'll just say, it's fair. That's where you get that Moslem thing that's like, Whatever is Allah's will. You know, Allah's will is the agreement that we make, that's what Allah's will is. (Q) Yeah, Allah's the All. The same ... Right, all of us. (Q) He says, where does reincarnation come in on the basis of that idea of astrological imprint? The question is the idea of being re-born until you get the karma worked out, and then the idea of the astrological imprint which comes on to you just according to when you're born ... This structure I'm gonna lay on you is like a structure that is made out of the Vedanta system, that is usually the kind of thing that would be taught by the Hindus. And like I don't say it is the structure, but it is a gearbox that gets from here to there. And if there is one that gets from here to there then you can make others that get from here to there. So here's one that will do it. They say that when the physical body dies, that the field, the auric field, the astral body, can exist for awhile after physical death of the material body, running on the energy that is given back into the system by the decomposition of that material body. It's like when you're running on the battery instead of the generator. So that continues until you work out first your subconscious, then your higher subconsciousness in other words, all your desires that you died holding will have to rattle around until they get all sorted out. That's in the lower astral. Then you go into higher astral, which is the heaven world. Going into the heaven world means that you're losing those desires, as you lose those desires your consciousness becomes finer, it is able to go higher into the astral. Right, it's that astral continuum again. And then you drop your astral hod, because you don't have any more desires, and you drop with that a certain level of desire completely, and then you have only your mental body left, and your spiritual body, and your mental body contains your memory. So you have memory, and then your memory, your mental body with your memory decides on your next karmic encounter, on the basis of how you did on the last one. Then it punchcards, as it were, your new incarnation. Well, the name of that punchcard is astrology. That's where it punchcards your new information, that's astrology. It decides your astrology on the basis of that thing, and then when it's done that it's like one of those little machines with the hand, you push the button to turn it on and the hand comes out of the box, reaches around and turns it off and then it goes back inside. Well, when the mental body has plugged on the astrology it then hari-karis and the memory dies. And when the memory dies your ego dies. "I" ... die. That's what dies then is the I. Cause that's memory. You, in relation to anything else. Then there's nothing left but the punchcard, or the karma, so to speak. So then the karma isn't your karma anymore, it's karma in the universe, and in that sense we have to say it's God's karma. So we don't really work out our own karma, we're all working out God's karma. God's karma is going from the first cause that began us all through all this multiplicity back to that first cause. And all of this that we're doing is on the way. And so I figure the relationship of astrology to reincarnation is like the twelve labors of Hercules which are being born in each of the twelve signs of the zodiac. Dig that. Hercules is Christ, you know, he's a Christ one, he's an avatar. So Hercules is Christ working out the karma of man by being born in each of the signs. Well, he's not just born in each of the twelve signs, he is born in each instant, degree, second, of all of them, because he is each of all of them because he is all of us. Yeah. (Q) Why does imprinting take place at birth rather than conception ... Here's a theory I have about it' there is a tremendous change takes place at birth, which is that the bloodstream changes in such a way that it changes from the bloodstream of a fish to the bloodstream of a mammal, in one instant. And it's one of the few things in the entire birth-growth process where there's like a quick change that changes the whole thing that way. And that particular change is that it's a two-valved heart, while it's hooked up to the placenta, and when you come out and the cold air hits you, a little valve slams shut, and it just goes slam, and it's a four-valved heart. And you're a mammal ... bang. Just like that. Zap, you're a mammal. And they say that ontogeny recapitulates phylogeny, which is to say that the process of evolution of any individual creature will more or less microcosm-macrocosm the entire evolutionary trip of the whole species. Right? And right there at birth is the place where we quit being a fish and start being a mammal . .. bang. And maybe that's a heavy enough change for that to make a difference, it means that you're on your own, you know, when that door slams you're on your own, baby. You're not parasiting on Mom no more, you're out there in the cold world, man, you gotta generate your own heat. You know, we'll take care of you for a little while till you learn how, but you're gonna have to do it, baby. (Q) Yeah ... also that like ... when two people get together and vibrate together, sometimes when two conga drummers are really good together they'll create a resonance between them that's like a third drum, a resonance'll come on between them and make the third drum. Well, sometimes two personalities will make a resonance and, bang, create a personality that just needs a body to surround it. You know, there's a baby there. And also that feeling that you come in there, that wild honey sweet God feeling, is the Holy Spirit, which is running right up your backbone, that's the real thing . that's the real stuff. (Q) Yeah. How do you deal with paranoia in your own head. The first thing is that you got to be able to cop that it's possible, because the trouble with paranoia is when you're doing it, you don't think you're doing it. And you gotta be able to cop that it's possible that you're doing it. One way, if you're having paranoia you're probably future-tripping ... like you probably got plans or anxieties or things that may or may not happen in the future and you're worrying about them, well, when you're out in the future the probabilities are thinner, it's like a squirrel running out on the branches, and when the branches get thinner it gets shakier. And that shakiness can cause paranoia ... just on its own, without any other reason for it. Merely the probabilities getting shaky can make you get paranoid. So what you have to do is recognize that paranoia is not a real emotion, that it's a non-survival trip and you have to just let go of it. I've seen people let go of it when it's been really hard. I had a cat come up to me once and he was stoned and so was I, and he said, "I really believe that my closest friends are gonna snuff me. I can just tell that they're just about to do it. And I think one of these nights they're gonna take me and haul me off and dump me into the bay, man, I really believe that." And the first thing I could think of to say was, "Well, like, you gotta learn to love them." And I was thinking about it and he was thinking about it, and he came to me in a few minutes and he wanted to continue with it and he said again that he really thought that his closest friends were gonna kill him. And I looked at him, I listened closely, and I said, "You're crazy, that's paranoia." And that was kinda hard, because that's like one computer says to another computer, "Your computer don't compute." And he hit that and his eyebrows started climbing, like on a ratchet .. . (chk-chk-chk-chk-chk) ... and it kinda got to the top and it hit the jackpot and went din-n-ng. And we got really stoned together suddenly. The vision had been pretty ordinary up until this point, and all of a sudden . bang, psychedelic and zap . .. and he'd bought it. It was like he'd decided that he'd rather be a little crazy cause he could get well from that, but he might not could get well from the other one. And I considered that a tremendous act of will, one I respect very much, to be able to just like cop and drop it. That's very fancy. And we can do that kind of thing, we're capable of it. (Q) Yeah. By perceiving it and by digging it, we reinforce the energy that is the life force that we and our friends live and exist on. Because we bring down life force, real life force, like if you take it away you die . . - and if you put it there you live. The life stuff. And that's what we are seeing, that's what that energy is, is life stuff, it's the Holy Spirit, it's the real thing, and to perceive it is to be blessed. Just to perceive it is to be blessed, for a start. To perceive it and know what it is is to be double blessed. And to perceive it and know what it is and not be freaked out so you continue to be a channel for it and bring more of it into the world for everybody to use is to be thrice blessed. To create us all happier and stronger and alive and healthier and rosy and like three-dimensionally stronger, here and now, in the real material world. (Q) What is Spirit? The Holy Spirit is the matrix that sustains us all. It is the one mind ... it is the prime container that contains all things and all of us. We can perceive it. Some of the times that you perceive it is when you're making love. That's Holy Spirit ... that electricity that plays. It's the life energy that keeps us all alive, it's like why a baby looks like a blooming flower, when you look at a baby and see it it's shining and radiating that force. And that's pure life force, that's the Holy Spirit. Like it's the one that keeps us all alive and making it. It's not something that you never know anything about, or you only perceive once in a lifetime, it's the real stuff, man, it's the bread of life. It's that energy which you live on, that you get along day by day by day ... and we all live on. It's not something remote, something that you only find once in awhile, it's that stuff that when you lay down and you're tired after a long day, and you feel the fatigue flow out of you, and you feel the warmth and the life flow into you, you feel yourself be flexible, that's the Holy Spirit, man, flowing right into you right there. It's the real thing. And when you're making love with your mate, your spouse, and that energy passes back and forth between you, and one of you can like rev up a little bit of energy, and the other one can feel it ... that's it, too. Because it is the medium in which we are all messages. Let me read a newspaper article to you. It's today's Examiner. How many people saw that? I'll read it for those who haven't. "The power to transmit thought, it says at the top. Los Angeles, AP . . "Evidence that the human body may serve as the antenna and generate the power needed to transmit thoughts over thousands of miles was reported during the weekend by Russian and American scientists. Dr. I. Al. Kogan of the Popov Institute for the Study of Radio Electronics and Communications in Moscow said conclusions based on 1966 and 1967 experiments indicate thoughts may be conveyed by extremely long magnetic waves with crests ranging from sixteen to six hundred miles apart. " That's why you gotta get a little spacey to get telepathic. Some of the waves are six hundred miles long. Just sit there and let it run through your head for awhile. "Telepathy via the electro-magnetic field is possible in theory over any distance," Kogan said in a paper given at a symposium on extra sensory perception sponsored by the University of California at Los Angeles The paper was read for Kogan. Dr. Thelma Moss, Assistant Professor of Medical Psychology at UCLA told the symposium of findings very similar to Dr. Kogan's, and said space scientists both here and in Russia are very interested in ESP as a way of keeping in touch with astronauts in case electronic communications break down. Kogan said calculations indicate the human body generates four to five times the electrical current he thinks would be needed for long-distance telepathy and told of experiments with human transmitters and receivers up to eighteen hundred miles apart. Dr. Moss told of telepathy ties between subjects in Los Angeles and others at the University of Sussex in England five thousand miles apart. Kogan did not describe just how the human body might act as an antenna for transmitting and receiving thoughts, but said, "Such antennas are considered to evolve from bio-currents generated from neuronal nerve networks. In one long-distance test between Moscow and Novo Sybarisk, eighteen hundred miles away, Kogan said a transmitter tried to project images of six objects. The receiver correctly described the main attributes of the images." He said, "The idea that telepathic wave lengths may be measured in miles instead of in the fractions of inches, between The crests of some radio waves, was an assumption based on mathematical calculation." Isn't that far out? The thing that's so wild about it is that this is one of those basic philosophical assumption things, that if you buy that, whew, you've had it, cause you're gonna have to buy the whole rest of the metaphysical trip, all the way out and down the line, until, you know, they're suddenly going to find themselves with God in the lab. Then what're they gonna do? Cause if you cop to making one telepathic communication, if you say one signal goes between two human beings, from that one signal, even if it's only like a feeling, from one feeling you can derive the entire rest of religion and metaphysics. From one communication. Because that's all that's necessary to go the whole route. All you gotta do is say, if a human being has an electro-magnetic field, and if another human being has an electro-magnetic field, and if you can send one thought between 'em, then you are stuck, whether you like it or not, at that point with a group field, a vector-resultant field composed of those two people's fields. And if you have a vector-resultant field composed of two people's fields you may not stop at that point until you have included the other three and a half billion people on the planet in the field. And when you've got the other three and a half billion people on the planet in the field then you run into the idea of gestalt, which is to say that the whole is more than the sum of its parts. Not that the whole is equal to the sum of its parts but that the whole is more than the sum of its parts. So there is a mathematically calculable, provable vibration surrounding the planet that is, by purely mathematical calculation, more powerful than three and a half billion people. Now that we have the concurrence of science in the existence of that electro-magnetic field, we also have the book of directions on the manipulation, receiving, and transmission of that electrical field by the use of your own body and mind. And the directions are of a different vintage. The affirmation is dated today. Latest news. The directions come from Hermes the Thrice Majestic, who was the real-life magician who was the germ for the Greek god Hermes. He goes so far back into antiquity that, when you get back into records five and six and seven thousand years old, various countries are still arguing about where he was born, whether he was born on the African continent or the European continent. He's so far back into antiquity that we know very little about him, except he left a set of principles, the seven-wrench tool kit for dismantling the universe, called The Emerald Tablet of Hermes. He's talking about electro-magnetic vibrations, talking in terms of wave crest and trough and that kind of idea, right? Here's the seven principles: The first one has already been said by the Beatles: "It's all in the mind you know." Principle one: the principle of mentalism, that it is all in the mind. Two is the principle of correspondence, "As above, so below." "As above, so below" says that it is legitimate to reason by analogy from the microcosm to the macrocosm, that you can go from what it's like to be a man to what it's like to be God, and that that is legitimate analogy. It's also, if you're going to be working into this kind of heavy mental trip, it's a whole different kind of thinking from what we were taught in school. If you're going to think a heavy thought in Aristotelian logic you're limited by your memory, right? How far can you keep that chain going without breaking it, and as long as the chain doesn't break then you're still talking about what you first started talking about. Aristotelian logical chain. The trouble is, to get any heavy information through, you gotta run the whole chain. If you use the principle of correspondence, "As above so below," you can activate a circuit in your mind of a certain shape and then magnify it to the macrocosm and see how it works. You can make a circuit be a certain shape, put the energy to it, and then magnify it or shrink it, and it's a way of getting from level to level without using the stairs. The principle of correspondence also works in Christian terms and is in the Lord's Prayer: "Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven." Three is the principle of vibration, which is to say that everything in the universe is in vibration. But we were already hip to that. Heisenberg told us. All of the good physicists back around the turn of the century found out for us that everything was in vibration although Hermes knew it some thousands of years ago. The fourth principle is polarity. That's to say that there is positive and negative, like in algebra and electricity there is positive and negative, and if you don't have positive and negative electricity you haven't got any electricity. If you don't have positive and negative numbers, you don't have any algebra. And if you don't have positive and negative illusion, you don't have any world to live in. Because all of the positive and all of the negative is completely committed, and the result of the commitment of all positive and all negative is the material plane. (Knocks on wood) That's the result of that. The principle of rhythm ... now the laws almost start to double tip on themselves, because the principle of rhythm is the principle of vibration at the level of macrocosm. Vibration in the microcosm is rhythm in the macrocosm, right? So it's just another vibration trip, only at another level. Six is the principle of cause and effect, sometimes called karma, or in Christian terms, As ye sow so shall ye reap. The principle of gender ... male and female kind of trip, that maleness and femaleness extends throughout the universe, that it's always with us. Except for the principle of mentalism, the other six principles can be derived from the symbol of the yang and the yin. It's a circle with a sine wave across it. And it's of two different colors, which is the principle of polarity. The sine wave makes it the principle of vibration. There's a little dot of red in the blue side and a little dot of blue in the red side. Very important, it's made out of red and blue, by the way, the yang and the yin. It's important that it's made out of red and blue because you want to balance it and get it all nicely mixed together, and if you work with the black and white yang and yin, and you mix it together, you get gray. But if you work with a red and blue yang and yin, when you mix it together, you get purple, which is the color of royalty, and babies, and good vibes, and togetherness, and things like that. I want to run through a little riff about the principle of correspondence and analog reasoning for a bit. That's what strikes me as being a good thing out of that. It's the difference between an analog computer and a binary computer, and our mind has the capability to be either kind. The school system, however, teaches you to be a binary computer, which is to count it all -- off-on, yes-no, either-or, count it all, count it in numbers. An analog computer can be much simpler than the other kind. Your gas gauge in your car is an analog computer. It says, as this little float here in the tank floats up and down, so your needle will go back and forth, or, as this thing varies so does this one. That even gets back around to what it is we're doing here .1 think that we, with what we've been doing to our minds over these last few years, have turned ourselves into a kind of planetary litmus paper, and I think if you want to find out how the planet's doing, look at your neighbors. Look at yourself. I think that this many of us can be here together is evidence and proof and the reason why this species is going to continue on the planet after all. You know our stay here in the building depends on whether we pay the rent or not, and I think our stay here on the planet is much the same way. They could have us, or some dinosaurs, or a duck-billed platyptus, or what have you, they don't care, as long as it makes the rent. If we want to run our own little side trip on the side, that's cool as long as we don't cause significantly more fuss than the buffalos and the passenger pigeons did. But they proved for a while that you could run this whole continent with just buffalos and passenger pigeons and a few Indians. You don't need all this crew. Wouldn't it be weird if suddenly being telepathic got to be popular? If that got to be a new fad it would be very interesting, cause the only way you could join in on the fad would be to go in and shovel out the communications room. That's the subconscious. For too long the culture has taught us that the subconscious is the garbage dump instead of the communications room. But upon learning that there is such a thing as a communications room, and that we all have one, and that it's just in there behind all the beer cans and orange juice packages and stuff ... you can just shovel right on in and dig it out. And it really feels good to know that there's this many folks around that know something about that kind of thing, that can help with it when it gets to be popular. What else we got happening? Somebody hit me with this thing (newspaper) on the way in and blew my mind. What's happening? What's relevant here and now? (Q) Would you talk about balancing the red and the blue in the yang and yin? We all, being electro-magnetic organisms, as the man from Russia said, have two poles to our electrical field, and one of them is the body field and one of them is the mind field. Now the energy is slightly different at each end of the magnet, you know, it's positive energy on one end and negative energy on the other end. Which translates to us ... positive and negative are words and abstractions and don't mean anything. They're just labels for that phenomena that's got ends on it. In our life we need to balance our mind with our bod, because a lot of our imbalances come from exactly that place. You can go on just a mind trip, that's going on a total conceptual trip, that's going completely logos, blue principle, in that direction. The logos is capable of considering things ... the logos is capable of communication and therefore is capable of lying. The eros body vibration can't lie. But the body vibration also runs in the direction of emotionalism ... if you run on purely eros, you can't get your thing together well enough to have any juice at all. And if you run on purely logos your juice turns cold and hard. That's why I stress the purple, because that visual symbolic thing of blending red and blue into purple gets the kind of shading of your mind and body principles that are necessary to put you in a place where you can be detached. Cause to get detached you gotta get cool first. You can't become detached cause it ain't cool, you know, like you can't teach philosophy to people whose stomachs are not full because all they're gonna hear is their stomach. You gotta feed 'em first. That's an eros-logos principle trip right there. I think the spirit's the purple, I think that's when the body and the mind are doing their thing together, that that is what gives you the spiritual place. (Q) What's the OM? It's sort of like the people's anti-bad vibe machine number one. They say if you took all the sound in the universe and listened to it all at once that it would be the OM. So when we here make an OM we make a resonance with that bigger one, and it's like if you happen to be in the position of having an airplane pass overhead, an old propeller type, and you listen to that hum of that plane and you start humming in yourself that frequency, right, where your voice matches up with that thing, when you hit the place with the airplane you'll tap in to the airplane's power, and you'll feel the hum, your humming, come on stronger and louder and more resonant and really heavy. Right? Anybody ever been in on that? You get the same thing, maybe, if you're passing a diesel truck up a hill with a sports car, right? Or a motorcycle passing a truck up a hill. And as you cross that ... as those vibrations cross and hit their pitch place, it comes on really strong and really powerful. And that same way, while we OM here we tap in to the all-the-way-out one, and we get to feel a little sense of that presence and power. You can also use the OM like to loosen yourself if you feel uptight. The OM is supposed to be spelled A-U-M, and each letter in it is supposed to be significant of one of the parts of the Hindu trinity, so when you're chanting the OM you're also invoking the trinity - . . Brahma, Shiva, and Vishnu. With the deepest AAAAAAA you can vibrate your solar plexus, you can kind of let that vibration go down through your lungs and your chest and vibrate your . . . right here, and take that from the first part of the vibration ... AAAAAAA, UUUUUUU ... that brings it to here. That also helps turn on your throat chakra, which is your universal love chakra. That's what getting all choked up is about. I was down visiting a bunch of high school age people who frequently come to the class from Castro Valley, and I was trying to read 'em a poem, which has a beautiful line in it where it gets very; heavy about it, everybody who really follows the directions of this sutra will have a place under a pine tree to sit and a blackberry to eat and will reach perfect enlightenment in the end ... and as I was getting into that part of it, reading it to 'em, they came on with such longing and such yearning you know, for what was symbolized by that statement that I couldn't read any more. It just stopped me cold, and I had to just sit there for about five minutes trying to get my shit together so I could read the last two lines of the poem. Cause that throat chakra was just going whonnnnnnng ... On the M-part you're supposed to put your front teeth together while you're doing that part, so it vibrates your cranium, you know, vibrates your whole cranium. Besides that it's being reinforced and all the holes in it are being filled up by everybody else's and all of our resonances and pitches and timbres are all going together really neat. If you're in an uptight crowd, downtown crowd, something like that, where there's a lot of paranoid folks, you pick it up right about here on the solar plexus and it gets tight ... that's a stack-up of energy. We're all like little energy transmuters. You know those things that float in swimming pools and go ssshhhwck and suck down all the leaves and bugs and sticks and stuff. That's what we are. You wander around through the world and take in all the vibes, transmute 'em through serenity and what have you, good dope, and put 'em back out, all vacuumed. The way we do it is that we absorb the body energy at this level and then transmute it ... We do other people's homework as if it were our own. We do the homework of all the people around us. That's how we help out, you know, by just refining those vibes everywhere we go. So if you create a channel ... energy at different levels, macrocosm, microcosm, as above, so below ... if you can create an energy wave in the physical plane, then higher and finer vibrations can ride on that physical-plane vibration, like a carrier-wave. Right? So as you do the OM you start with it here, and you make a physical vibration happen. From there, all the way tip through these higher chakras. And by the time that paranoia which you've picked up has filtered through all of this other jazz it's turned into stoned, and you're projecting high, you know, you're projecting stoned out from that, because it's just energy and all you do is clean it up, and then you can run on it. Also, that reduces the tension level in the people around you, helps make for them to be less uptight, makes 'em easier to get along with. So when you bring up the physical vibration it brings up the electronic/spiritual/telepathic vibration et cetera with it. What else are we interested in? (Q) Can my own energy hurt me? You mean can you overamp yourself? What you're doing with high energy is like raising some kundalini, and they call the kundalini the serpent power. And the particular kind of serpent I always think of is some thirty-five foot rock python or something, you know, cause it's a lot of juice. Kundalini is the human body's answer to the Stanford linear accelerator. But what you do is don't decide that it's too much, for a start. Because it's whatever you decide it is, because it's your own energy.. There's a way to sit back down on top of some energy instead -- sometimes if there's a lot happening around us and the energy gets high we shudder you know, and that's like shaking it off, letting that energy go, shaking it loose from you. Sometimes when energy comes on strong you'll tend to want to do that, and try to get loose from it. If you'll relax as much as you can and just settle back in on it and let it flow ... like, it's just a matter of practice. I think if two years ago I'd channeled as much energy as I am right now, I think it would've made me shake. Cause it's a lot of juice. And it's just to relax on top of it. If you get tense and rigid ... doubt, anything like that throws rigidity into your colloid. If you get rigid, then you're gonna have to shake behind it or let it hang you up. But otherwise, it can't hang you up. Just sit down on top of it and let it get you high. Cause the answers are in the direction of high. (Q) If you feel uptight and you feel like you're on a high level what you gotta do is take care of the homework on the material plane. You gotta have both ends workin' all the time. It goes back around to the old lady asking if she's gonna get electrocuted if she steps on the streetcar track. And the answer is, no, not unless you put your other foot on the overhead wire. And the same way with getting too ethereal and too spiritual and not hangin' in there on the material plane a little bit. Cause if you get loose from the bottom, you know, you're just flappin' in the breeze, man. You gotta hang in there on both ends. (Q) Does psychic energy persist? I think that has to do with vibrations persisting. That's a heavy thing about 'em If you don't consider that they persist then a lot of stuff doesn't work. The vibrations you put into a room will hang in there, like you can walk into a room where there's been a big hassle happening, and you can tell, you know. Not only that, but you can get to where you can see the astral furniture of a room. I used to trip in a room the same one all the time, and it had a big poster of Einstein. And I used to look at it a lot while I was tripping. And then during the course of things we moved the picture over to another wall, but there developed a reddish glow hanging in front of that picture, and when we moved the picture over to the other wall the glow stayed there on the wall. And then every time you got high there was that piece of astral furniture in the room, there was this one little red glow from around where that picture'd been. And pretty soon it was like we had a whole bunch of stuff that was there every time. Well, that's what an exorcism is about, like an exorcism is to sweep out the astral furniture, you know, to clear out all the astral furniture so you can start over from fresh. In the kitchen all you could see was real bright white and yellow light, because the kitchen was the place where somebody went to work, and there was like a real high competent doing-things vibe in there, and it was really pretty. But the vibe in the living room where everybody hung out and messed around all the time was like little streaks hanging here and there which were vibes persisting. So, vibes can persist in anything. (Q) If you're talking to people and they won't cop, what do you do? You know, if you're talking to people and you try to tell 'em about a game, and they aren't interested at all, right? In most folks' ground rules it's considered impolite to notice that your conversational partner is neurotic. And what you do about that's another thing. Jesus, when he was giving the instructions to the apostles, told 'em when you go into a house, feel the house, and let your peace descend on the house, and if the house accepts your peace then you're cool. You stay there. But if the house rejects your peace go forth from that house and go forth from that town and shake the dust from your feet. Because there's a whole lot of folks aching to know. Don't bother arguing with somebody that don't want to know. There's a lot of folks that really want to know real bad. There's folks just goin' around askin'. To not cast your pearls before swine means don't cheapen the truth by fighting over it. (Q) When you're looking at somebody you see demons? That means that one or both of you has ambiguous matter in your subconscious. Cop, you know. Say what you see. But whenever you get into that kind of stuff what you have to do is always remember they got a subconscious. And allow 'em their subconscious. And say, you may not be aware of the jazz you're projecting at me; however, when it comes to this end this is what I get. And if you want to modify yourself in some way so as to change that you can, if you want to. You can't put anything on anybody, you know, except just tell the truth. (Q) Where does thought come from? In the Tibetan yoga ritual it says that it is necessary to remember that thought comes from a concatenation of causes. Your subconscious is a big pot of oatmeal bubbling, you know, and sometimes it's like gonna bubble up some cinnamon and sometimes, you know, whatever. It just bubbles up. That's why you have to be able to look at your fount of thought without being freaky about what you see. Because there's no tellin' whose thoughts you're thinkin'. It might be yours or it might be the cat next to you who might be really freaking out, you know. But the Beatles say listen to the color of your dreaming. That's that place, looking at that fountain of thought, and just watching the bubbles pop, and don't worry about 'em. (Q) Right, not necessarily you at all. That's why God and the Spirit and that sort of stuff must be apprehended through feeling, which is to say that you can't apprehend the Deity by Aristotelian logic. Thank God. (Q) Question is, auras and meanings of colors. Usually, the colors of the aura come on about like the colors of the spectrum. And I think they have to do with the seven basic states of super-consciousness. A red aura is sexy, also tends to be proud and brave and maybe fast anger. An orange aura is like friendly. About the color of the redheads' hair, color orange aura ... that really nice, warm, rich ... is really a warm friendly kind of trip. Green is a healing color. Blue is a color of wisdom, as is gold. Gold is the color of balance and wisdom. If you mix the seven colors of light together it makes white light. And if you are coming on equally, completely balanced on all of your energy centers, then the light beam, the light source from each energy center comes in perfect balance with the others, and you come off with white light, which is that your electricity is balanced. Usually spiritual auras are things like violet, and purple and lavender and gold. Your aura changes according to the state of your physical body and the state of your mind. You have all kinds of electrical things happening in you, and they're gonna be all kinds of nodes of resonance, and the nodes of resonance will be of varying shades and colors. (Q) Laughing? I think laughing's just free good karma. You know, all the time that you're laughing you're wide open, you're non-linear, non-directional. It may be the highest form of communication that we can do by mouth. Cause somebody can drop your cut-glass vase on the floor ... and you can laugh and it's cool. (Q) What about laughter being sadistic? That's a Freudian idea. Freud says that humor is frequently hostile, is laughing at slipping on a banana peel and all that. But that's only out of a head that's basically neurotic because a head that's basically sane doesn't dig other people getting hurt. There's a whole lot of things that are joyful to laugh about, and laughter itself I think is a joyful phenomenon. That's like saying that man basically digs seeing man get screwed up, and I don't think so. I think the laughter is to release a tension, because you can see something happen and you can't help it, you can't do anything about it, you're stuck with all this tension that you gotta release somehow. I don't think that it's a hostile enjoyment of a person getting hurt. I think Freud was pretty groovy a lot of the time, but I think he also came out of a context, and anyone who comes out of a context is going to be modified by it, and so I think he's slightly warped by his context in that sort of idea. Although he's really on the money about things like your sexual energy being oral or anal or genital or all that kind of trip. That's just different chakras being turned on is what that's about. He had real insights there. But I don't think that anywhere can you say that the laugh is a cruel phenomenon. I want to go back to that first thing you said again about how laughter seems to occur when linear logic gets suspended. That's what a joke is about. A lot of times the joke is about the thing that doesn't follow, the non sequitur. Or how did you get there from here? All that kind of thing. Laughter says there's another way around that's faster than logic, man, because logic is slow. There's a faster way through here. And that's what laughter is about, because laughter recognizes the logic of the subconscious, as in "Is it farther to LA or by bus?" (Q) Some people don't have the material plane worked out. We're all hip to that. When you start maneuvering the material plane around from the material plane it does not come out even, because those who are strongest on the material plane will take the most of it. So the only way to bring about anything on the material plane, like any kind of fairness, is to go for broke for the spiritual plane as hard as you can in order to educate people out of the idea of having more than they need. If you get into the idea that you're going to move it around on the material plane that means you've got to go take it away from somebody who ain't gonna dig that. It must go out free and impartial. Therefore, for each one of us to do our best, good-hearted, straight up, go for broke best will raise the vibration equally around the whole planet, all of which needs it. Now it might be more dramatic to put all that juice into saving one trip, and to try to go for lifting the whole thing might be kind of like ... I had a friend who used to drive a truck from Long Beach into the city, about seventy miles into Los Angeles, and he had to run the oil out of the truck into a big tank there. And it took him about eight hours to do one trip of it, filling up the tank, driving it about seventy miles and draining it into the other tank ... When he drained it into the other tank it raised the level of that tank three-eighths of an inch. Right? But it raised the level of the tank three-eighths of an inch. And so what we do here, instead of like shooting up a thermometer to show how far we can squirt it we raise the whole planet three- eighths of an inch each time. All the time. Keep pushin'. Cause we gotta get it all off. There's no sense startin' with any favorites. You don't have to do a lot of structure stuff. All that structure stuff just hangs you up in linear stuff. What you do is just be groovy as you can all the time. Why say, okay, now I'm gonna sit and spend this thirty seconds thinking about the well-being of other folks? Why not just dedicate your life to it and do it twenty-four hours a day and not have to sit around and do rituals about it? We're like shock absorbers. You know. A lot of the people in this country have a gigantic the-sky-is-falling Henny-Penny complex. And the newspaper works pretty heavy on that kind of thing because the newspaper's always coming on with Oh no, the sky is falling here, lookie there, there's a piece of it right now --. But, you know, we're that group of people who are fortunate enough that we don't have to freak from the newspapers because we sometimes see weirder things ourselves ... So we don't freak so easy, we can shock-absorber the vibe a little bit, you know, so you don't get those astral convulsions. It's all happening at once, but it's all in perfect balance. And that's its thing, that it can get so far out and so fantastic and still be in balance. Cause it's always in balance . It's always in that perfect place. Right now. Yesterday, too. Tomorrow. We're all together all the time whether we're here or not, you know, because we're together in spirit and in mind and on the astral plane all the time. We meet in the bod once a week. That's cool. We're still together all the time. (Q) What is a bodhisattva? A bodhisattva is one who has attained buddhahood and has by his own choice willingly become reborn in the world again rather than to leave the wheel, in order to help other people attain realization. You can get in the old Tibetan books and find things about bodhisattvas, like there's a thing of twelve criteria of a bodhisattva, and most of 'em happen to have to do with conservation of energy, which is if you're a bodhisattva it means that you've elected to come back to this here planet, live, here and now, on purpose in order to help out . . . therefore, in the first place, you've got to save one soul off of the top to pay for your trip, and in the second place, you should probably be careful that you don't eat more brown rice, drink more water and breathe more air than is absolutely necessary for your survival. Because you 're using up a place where someone else could be working out their karma, and so you gotta come on strong behind it or you're just wastin' a place. Of the twelve criteria of a bodhisattva, about nine of 'em have to do with conservation of energy. Not usin' up the trip for other folks. The other three have to do with your ego. (Q) An avatar is supposed to be a soul-mind in perfect oneness with man and God ... in total communication with the allness and perfectly good and just and accurate all the time ... I understand from the books. I also see that some people think they come every five hundred years and some people think they come every twenty-five hundred years. I have my private opinions about that kind of thing which are along the line of. Jesus, Lao-tze, and Hermes were all avatars of a specific kind, the variety that is said to be born of supernatural causes ... Buddha also appeared in a lotus blossom. Buddha, Jesus, Lao-tze, Hermes, those cats all went pop and just appeared one way or another. Then there's a whole bunch of other ones that were born and survived nasty old mothers and bitchy old ladies and all that and got straight anyway. I think that we all, individually, each, male and female, all have the potential to become an avatar. I think avatars happen at certain periods because it just isn't that often you get somebody who happens to have that good a genes and that good an environment and get that straight, you know, and be understood. According to various cosmological systems all ranks within religious hierarchies are attainable. They say Vishnu didn't just like come on being created as Vishnu, he got to be Vishnu by being really groovy and heavy and working hard. And now his place is, it's his dream, he's asleep dreaming us, and he got there by attainment. It's the psychedelic equivalent of Every boy can be president. Could I have questions? Yes. Question says, How come people like us can sit so still, s-o quiet, for so long. One of the reasons that we can sit still and be quiet is because most of the things that people are doing, when they're not sitting still and being quiet, is trying to convince themselves that they are really communicating with their fellow men. And that they're up like trying to prove it one way or another. But you can also just relax, and be in it ... that's a lot of what happens here, is just relaxing and being in it. All we have to do is know that most of us came here for the same thing, and that is the idea that we want to do the best we can by it . . you know, put some back into the machine ... back into the system, and how to do it. Because like we're all pretty healthy and good-looking and stuff, so they're obviously the benefactors of the system. I think the way you put it back in is in reaching out to your relatives, and to your parents, and to straight people, really hard. Right now I think that the culture is looking this way again. The culture's really looking this way again trying to find out what we are, and how do we survive the way we do ... and how we keep lookin' the way we do. We're going to be asked to be teachers. That's what I've always thought this whole thing was, was a normal school -- that's what they call a teacher training school, isn't it? Abnormal school? Some sort ... but for the purpose of training teachers. (Q) Question is of responsibility, of how far a human's responsibility extends in manifesting other people, of how much of other people's trip are you responsible for. Some. Everybody's responsible a little bit for somebody else's trip, in the sense of how we choose to think of someone, by whether we want to make them go up, or come down ... how they rise and fall in our estimation affects them. And it also affects us, what other people think of us. And that's on the level of us manifesting each other to be the best possible ones of us we have. But as far as like what comes on to us from the universe goes, we're each one responsible for our self. See, that's another trip. We're basically each one responsible for our self-one man, one karma, is one of the basic axioms that we have to work by. That's in the Bible also, in the Book of Proverbs, where it says that You don't need to fear the sudden fear. That's the thing, you don't need to worry about anything suddenly going wrong without you knowing about it, because you really know what's going on, and you about know what you got coming. (Q) Because you can't have something without both of 'em. Good and evil are like positive and negative, in electricity, and in algebra. And it requires a helping of both for the world to function, and to get along. What we do is like ... we can share it equally. That's what we can do for our fellow man, is to share that equally -- that's what's meant by one man, one karma. So we have our way that our books balance. We're each born and we each die. That's one man, one karma for a start. And then we each one get what we manifest. What we manifest is what happens to us. (Q) If you have some sort of weakness that has to do with your astrological sign, can you overcome that? You certainly can. The stars are not the absolute determiners. They say that the stars incline, not compel. That's because we have to have free will -- if we don't have free will the whole show is a farce. You know, everything's a shuck if we don't have free will. And we got that. (Q) The way you make yourself better is to assume that you are perfect, because each one of us is perfect . the doctrine of perfection says, If I draw that thing, it may not be a perfect circle, but it's a perfect whatever it is. Yay. That's really true, because that's what each one of us is, is a perfect whatever we are. And we're all perfect. Assuming that you're perfect means assuming that you can change, and that you can become however you ought to be. And there's a thing about not watching magic too close -- it's the same as the watched pot not boiling idea. Take good pictures of your body. Don't be afraid to look at yourself in the minor. Our culture has a horror of mirrors and they put it on you that anytime you look in a mirror there's something you're supposed to be guilty about. That's not true. A mirror is a very good and accurate tool -- it shows you, on a level, what you look like. You really know how you ought to look ... for yourself. Because everyone is beautiful if they got the juice turned on inside. And it doesn't have anything to do with the meat part. Everyone is beautiful ... if they are lit up, because that's what beauty is, is being lit up. And anything that gets lit up that way is beautiful. (Q) What if it freaks you every time you look in the mirror while you're tripping? It's probably because you get a little vision into your subconscious that you may not really be wanting. Everyone's subconscious isn't going to look too good to 'em, because all of that stuff in your subconscious you rejected once already that's how it got there, was that you rejected it. See. So you get this little bag ... you know, when your subconscious opens up and you get to see it, you look into this bag where you've been stuffing stuff ... you know. Yech ... But the thing is it'll teach you a lot of humility, and it'll teach you a good way to be with other people. Cause one of the heaviest ways to ... this is related to both questions of like manifesting yourself, and your responsibility for other people, both. Because one of the heaviest things that you can do for someone is to not be freaked out by them, no matter what they look like. No matter what they look like. Because if somebody looks to you for affirmation, and they're looking a little scared, right? That's why they need the affirmation, is cause they're a taste scared. So they look at you for some affirmation, and you look at 'em, and they look scared to you, and a little funny ... you know? So you freak out a little bit on 'em, because they're funny-looking. And then what they pick up off your face is, O-o-gh . he doesn't like the way I look, I guess it must he pretty bad. You know? Turns him down a little bit more, and you go O-o-h, look at that! So you got to watch that kind of a loop, and not get into that kind of a trip. And the way you have to do it is to be able to look at anything because you're liable to see anything. Just flat anything - . . whatever's imaginable by the mind of God. So if you can look in a mirror when you're tripping, and just be cool behind it, and then look at what you look like, and don't freak out by it, it can really be good for you. And also when you look at someone else, maybe you will have seen yourself going through those same gyrations ... and you won't be quite so shocked at seeing somebody else get hairy like a werewolf, or get fangy, or turn green or whatever it is that you might think was a funny-looking thing that they might do. (Q) Well, the way to do that is to communicate that verbally. That's what we use the verbal plane for, because you know, sticks'n stones'll break your bones but words'll never hurt you, well, that's really true, the nice thing about the word plane is that you can just come on to somebodv ... if somebodv's showing you something that's disturbing you, you can say, Hey, you're showing me a really funny-looking thing, what's going on in your head right now, is that something you're thinking? And you know, if they're smart they'll level with you and tell you what they're thinking. Because that's usually what makes somebody look funny, you know, is something they're thinking. Along with not freaking on how somebody looks is being able to listen to anything too. And it's a lot easier to have someone say, I'm angry with you, than to have 'em go r-o-w-r-r and really pour it on because that'll curdle your vibes, man ... rigid up your colloid and make you like a hard-boiled egg. (Q) That we only remember a small part of what we dream, then how are we doing in the part that we don't remember, is sort of like the question really, isn't it? Yes. You definitely can control more than the part you just remember because the way you do that is through a handle -- as above, so below. There are several ways of saying that, that's reasoning from microcosm to macrocosm. You can just assume that you're doing on all of the planes about the same way you're doing on this one - . . because it's all here and now, and it all relates, and it's all relative. Like you can't go anywhere that you can't get back from. That's a very important thing to remember. That's special and general relativity. If you assume that your subconscious is cool, that's the handle on making it be cool. For you to assume it makes it happen. And you have to know what assuming is -- assuming's a heavy thing. Like one time I was sitting in a funny chair, and I reached over and picked up a cigarette or something off of a table, and then I was gonna put the cigarette in my mouth. And I had my arm underneath the arm of the chair and I assumed that there wasn't anything there, and I just went right through it and just broke the chair thing without bruising myself or hurting me or feeling any particular sense of pressure or strain or anything because I assumed everything was empty between there, and there happened to be a piece of wood there that broke as I came through it. That's how it is when you assume something ... cause when you assume something's the case, then you just go on ahead and believe that's the case. That's a great dea] of the trip about the brick-breaking thing ... the karate trip and all that, gonna break a roof tile or a brick or something is assuming that it's gonna break when you hit it, instead of hoping it will. (Q) Yeah. It is bad karma to beat up a nark. The thing is that any violent act that anyone does adds to the sum total of violence in the world. And the more of it that we make, the more of it that there is. (Q) Question is about defenses. Well we have one great big natural one that's as natural to us as a white rabbit in the snow. And that is that we know what's going on. That really helps a lot. And if we just assume that we know what's going on, we can really do it cool. We don't have to get violent with anybody, or shove anybody around, or any of that kind of jazz, all that does is bring bad karma. I assume, by the way, that the class has probably had its own nark for years. We've probably converted several, you know, and they've probably had to keep hiring new ones. Because I don't think anybody can hang around these people for very long without getting to dig 'em, somehow. And so I assume there's always that present. And the thing is I be the same out front as I am all around. I do everything everybody else does, I guess. I been livin' around this city for awhile, and I haven't been bothered. I don't bug people, they don't bug me. I really like the way this city treats me, all the way around. (Q) With autistic children the trip is, there's no real ... there's no known treatment for autism -- which is a kid that went schizy before he was old enough to talk, so he'd never learned to talk. See. So the way they treat these kids is like, at first they thought there were systems, and then they found out that the only people that could use the systems were the people who invented them. And they found out the reason that worked was because the kids ... well, they didn't know the reason it works. Here is the reason it works, kids are telepathic, cause they're schizy, and a schizy place is a telepathic place. And so the kids are sitting in there ... anybody who comes up that's going to impose a system on 'em, they can see that it's a shuck. And anybody who comes up to 'em with real love, it doesn't matter what the system is, they respond to it. And so they found that that kind of kid only responds to true love -- which is all we all only respond to really . finally ... is real love. (Q) You being in a bad way is how come it got that bad. You see, like you're not the only beard or long-hair that walks on the street. And the thing is that when somebody's in that kind of a place, they know whose cage to rattle ... because they know that it will rattle. Yours rattled, because if you were pushed to the point of like wanting to do a gun trip on somebody, or because they were wanting to pull your beard .. . you know. (Riff goes on) Oh, haven't you been knocked down before? Oh, I've been knocked down and kicked a few times. You live through it pretty well. It's a lot better than killing somebody. I'd rather get knocked down and kicked than kill somebody. (Riff goes on) Yeah. I haven't had that kind of thing happen to me lately, but I had a thing happen once where I walked past a kid who was leaning on a lamppost. And he was about seventeen, and a healthy, big, well set-up kid, and he was drunk. And as I looked at him, way back in the back of my head somewhere, it said, "Punk". And I walked on past him, and I went into this place where I was doing my thing, and I came back out, and the second time I walked past him he stepped out away from the lamppost, and he ... it was really telepathic, man, because he didn't say a word to me, I didn't say a word to him, he just stepped out from the lamppost and swung on me. And we went through a whole trip in the street there. And I ended up getting him down and threatening I was going to do something terrible to him, and he made me to understand that he didn't care if I tried or whatever, and I found I couldn't do anything like that. And so I had to let him go . and hold him away from me while I tried to figure out what to do. And then a large crowd came up, and there were people picking winners ... you know, saying I'll take on the winner. So I let one of the winners pick him, and I left. Went and found my glasses down the street about a half a block, where they'd been pitched, and split. But, you know, all the time it was going on I knew what'd happened, man, I knew that ... I looked at him, and I saw a seventeen year-old kid drunk leaning on a lamppost and I thought, "Punk." And so I bought all that whole trip just for that. And you really got to be careful about that kind of thing, cause when someone's drunk, a lot of their consciousness is knocked Out, and they're running a lot on their subconscious ... and they're pretty telepathic and stuff at that stage, drunks and kids and people like that, don't ever lie to 'em. (Q) He says, when you're in a place like that and you become aware of it, how do you change it ... when you see it happening, how do you change it to a better situation. You have to take control of yourself, cause that's the only variable in the situation over which you have control. So you just take what variable that you do have control of and control it. Jesus says, Be thou wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. The earlier question he wanted to ask, also, about where did evil come from? It's like this: First cause is a pure tone, a pure vibration . one pure vibration. And then a vibration breaks down into harmonics. And there's the first overtone, and the second overtone, and so on, and it breaks down into infinite numbers of harmonics Well you can take two harmonics that are removed from the first prime tone and put them together in such a way that they're discordant. But there can be no discord within a system that starts from one. Because everything in it goes back to that. And we see apparent disharmony and apparent discord at the lower levels of manifestation ... which is some of the jazz that we get into here in the physical plane. But it all really does work out. We can combine those harmonics in any way we choose. And if we want to put them together and make them ugly we can. But the one nice thing about vibrations is the way a drop of water in free-fall becomes a sphere ... vibrations, if allowed to settle, will make a symmetrical pattern. And it so happens that a symmetrical vibration pattern means that the energy is equally shared among all of the inhabitants. So we can relax, and the energies become equalized. (Q) First cause works like this: First we have to go to entropy, in order to see what chaos is. See, all of the systems say, in the beginning, there was chaos. Right? They all start off that there's some kind of chaotic state in the beginning. Some of the old religious artists have drawn chaos as rocks and flames and big waves, and hassles like that. But that's not what chaos is like. Because what chaos is really is entropy. And that means that like all of the water that's in the mountains has gone to the valleys, not only that but the mountains have gone to the valleys. Not only that, the matter is all equally divided throughout the entire universe. When you reach a point then where everything -- all of the matter and all of the energy in the universe -- is homogeneously distributed throughout the entire universe, that's the condition of chaos. But that also happens to be the most rigid order possible. And then in that condition any change is first cause. Any change from that condition is first cause, and begins a whole cycle of existence. And that's the way of the cycle of the kalpas, in the Vedanta. They say there are four ... that there are cycles of time -- the yugas. Like the kaliyuga is supposed to be the one where everything's going to hell. And there's one where everything's cool. Now all of those yugas are taking place simultaneously. All of those harmonics are going on right now. The Aquarian age and the kaliyuga are here and now. The Kingdom is at hand. That doesn't mean next week, that means at hand. .. you know, at hand, right there. (Q) Ah, the relationship between perfection and growth. This is an interesting idea, because one idea of perfection is a static thing ... but there is growth. What we are is, we are perfect each instant. We are perfect each instant in the eternal now. The smallest unit of now is the kronon. And there's total destruction and total rebirth on each kronon, and each manifested universe is perfect. And they change, one to the next to the next, each kronon. And it's just like the amount of change that takes place from one frame to the next frame on a movie film. Each picture is perfect, but moving . there's growth. (Q) He's talking about African Genesis, and the evidence gathered in the Olduvai Gorge in Africa, claiming that man came from a ninety-pound, meat eating ape that lived on things that was bigger than it was . . . and used weapons to feed itself. He can think that if he wants to, first. Also, even if so, that's two hundred million years ago. Homo habilis is the name of that little cat, and that's checking in at two hundred million years ago . And I learned to quit eating meat in thirty years, so guess the species could learn to do it in two hundred million. I think that our ability to cooperate, via our ability to communicate, is heavier than any of our innate things, except for just the chemical composition of what we gut to have to live. And we can live without killing. And we enjoy each other's company. I don't think we need to believe that even if we did come from meat-eating ancestors, that we have to consider ourselves to be carnivores and predators now. (Q) Oh, now you want to get into the idea of territoriality, as it relates to ... right. We are in a position where territoriality is giving us a little hassle ... because that's the nationalism of China, Russia, and the United States, and Britain and France, and so on ... rather than the internationalism that's really necessary for the planet to survive. But I think that what we're doing here is to help overcome that tendency toward territoriality. Because a lot of our trip is to invite the other cat in . you know, like the Beatles have that song ... how's it go, One two three, can I take my friend to tea? You know one, two, three, four, can I have a little more? Ever listen to that song close? That's what that's about. And we, if we recognize ourselves as guests on the planet, then we'll be more likely to help other people ... to recognize other people as guests on the planet. And I think that we'll have to charm them. I think what it comes down to is we're gonna have to woo and charm mankind. But we can, cause we're really pretty. (Q) Yes, I would relate evolution to entropy in this sense: Entropy is the tendency of the material plane to run down. Life in general is the tendency to organize, and build up. And evolution is the motion of life along a time-line. And life is of equal power to entropy. And life and entropy, by their opposing nature, create the environment in which we now exist. Where we are at, here and now, is the result of that opposing stasis, between life and entropy. (Q) No, the thing is that, once you realize what entropy is ... that entropy is that place where all of the energy and all of the matter in the universe is equally distributed throughout the universe ... well, that's like defining entropy as the state of a deck of cards when they're all like, ace, two, three, four, five, jack, queen king, you know, and they're all laid out in suits ... and say, Okay, there's the most orderly way, there's entropy -- that stable ... that situation. Well, in point of statistical fact, that way of the cards being set up is no more likely or no more unlikely than any other way of all the cards on the deck being set up. And if the cards were completely scrambled there is a statistical likelihood of that, it is the number of cards times the number of cards kind of a thing, I think. (Q) No, because life is gonna continue. Life is continuing. The trouble with the classic entropy idea of everything running down, and stopping . . . well, I don't think . . I don't want to stop. I'll just Start right there, I don't want to stop. And I found out the way not to stop. The way not to stop is not to get hung up in beginnings, or ends. There never was a time when man was not; there never will be a time when there will not be man. That's saying, all that ever was, is, and will be. (Q) The question is about impatience and that kind of thing. The first thing about impatience is, it evinces that you are dissatisfied with where things are at right now. Well if you're dissatisfied with where things are at right now, you're stuck with 'em. Because the only way that you're going to change anything for the better is to accept it ... as it is right now ... to buy it as it is right now. And then you can make changes fractionally, kronon to kronon, from that place. But it's like hopping a freight train. You just can't go and step up in front of a freight train ... it's gonna run you right down. You got to like run along beside it a little ways, and match speed with it, and jump onto it, and then you can go down and make a deal with the engineer ... if you want to, that's another trip. See? So what you got to do is buy it the way it is, and then you're in the position to make deals with the engineer ... about helpin' the whole thing out. The OM is a way that we can all talk at once. As you know we all don't talk at the same time, and the reason for talking ... the informational part isn't primary. (Q) She wants me to talk about attachment and change, which is pretty groovy because that's along the line of something I wanted to talk about. The thing about attachment and change is that you can change yourself and the universe limited only by your attachments. But the real thing about being unattached is to be unattached by the second, here and now, and allow change to happen. I've had the thing of somebody telling me, "You shouldn't think about that anymore, that's kind of a drag, why don't you just forget that?" I say, "Okay." They say, "The reason you ought to forget it is that it's really kind of a bring-down, and I say, "Forget what?" That's the way, man, that's the way to get high. You gotta be able to cut loose, just like that. To make things change, to make physical plane changes, you gotta make changes at all the other levels first. You gotta be unattached all the way. Well it's easy to be unattached when we're one with the Godhead, because there's nothing to be attached to, you know, we're just there, that cool, all one ... don't have to know anything, because when you're that heavy you don't have to know anything. God isn't bound by knowledge or anything ... much heavier than that ... not even in that same level of sort systems, much heavier than just knowledge. If we're gonna make change happen, in the real world, we have to understand that this is three-dimensional illusion, it's 3-D TV, and it's hard to the touch because we agree it is. It takes a great deal of mental to make a little something happen in the astral, and then it takes a great deal of astral to make a little something happen in the physical. And it's like multiple - multiple - multiple trips. The way you do magic on that level is you decide that you know what you want and then just sock it to it with everything you have ... that you know what you want and then let it happen. Relax and don't be attached because if you pray too long you mess up the machinery of prayer so it's hard for your thing to happen. Prayer is how we manifest our thing. We don't have to kneel to pray, we don't have to use any words to pray. All you have to do is sincerely want it, and know that it is good, and then you get it ... unless you're too attached. It's like throwing an anchor over and hanging on to the rope. You gotta let go of the rope. But real non-attachment is being willing to give up the whole universe ... over and over and over again. You have got to become non-attached to the whole universe. If you can become non-attached to the whole universe so you don't really care, you're not attached to yourself, then you can make changes in the universe from kronon to kronon. But it means you've got to let go of everything, you've got to let go of caring who you are. But there's something that comes to you in return for that. And if you find yourself doing something and you don't know what it is, say, I know where I was when I started this, and I'm just gonna continue until I get to where I was going ... because it's like throwing yourself across something. (Q) Attachment to knowledge? Yeah, one of the things about the attachment to knowledge trip that I find is you get these great big books written by some medieval magician, you know, and it tells you that there's umpty-ump orders of angels here and that there's seventeen kinds of dominions there, and it goes through this like army hierarchical breakdown of the various planes and things ... You don't need to know all that stuff, that's an attachment trip to try to write all that stuff down. I figure that ... the thing about putting something in a solid coated frame is just about the way to kill it. That's what happened to Christianity ... they finally got it nailed down, as it were. Like all those things they have in the Catholic church all have good reasons for them, the only thing wrong with them is they got made into a ritual and then they got forgotten why they do that. But confession is like copping ... That's what confession is for, see, to find someone to cop to; a priest is a cat you can cop to who won't put his ego on you about it. The Catholic church said, Okay, well we can't keep that good a track of the priests, so we'll make a special confessional booth ... and it has two little seats and it has a screen between them you can't see through so that way the cat can't even see you while you're copping to him. He can't get ego-involved with you. And then they still could, so they said, Okay, we'll give the cat a little book and tell him how much to lay it on because there's only a few things that people can do wrong, really ... sin ain't that original. So they gave the cat a little book so he could like scale it down on that, and he says, Oh yeah, man, that's pretty bad, we'll have to give you seventeen for that one, and they can always figure it out. What happened is by the time they got it that mechanized it wasn't interesting for anybody anymore. You know, and if nobody was interested in it then they couldn't get anybody to come cop real things, and so the only persons the priest had to listen to was thirteen-year-old girls that spent all week long making up things to cop to. Or some anonymous pickpocket would wander in off the street now and then and say, 'Whew, sure wish I wasn't a pickpocket," and wander out. But that piece of structure was really' real when it was new and when it was fresh because it served a function. There's a lot of people that come here who are into white magic, and want to know where white magic is at . well, where white magic is at is Catholic High Mass, that's white magic, that's ceremonial white magic ... Catholic High Mass ... figured out over a couple of thousand years to) be the most white magic ceremony they could put together, you know, with all kinds of people helping them. The way a Mass gets put together like that is, they say there is a structure that has to be followed in order to be sure that everything is right and that is like everybody comes in and they cop to something bigger than them . you know, that's a piece of structure. And then they have to devote their attention to something on a very high and spiritual plane ... and then they have a vibes director, who's like the cat at the summer camp ... hup-two-three-four, you know, direct the vibes. And then they get together and do their thing, and the idea is to generate enough juice among them to get one of them on. See. So when they get enough juice generated among them to get one of them on, the one that's on checks in, man, and goes ... ahhhh! ... and he looks around and he comes back and says, Yeah, it's still there, man! And then you have that structural thing happen so all those people say, Ahh-ahh, and all the ones who almost could get It on get it on like that, and the ones who couldn't quite yet get it on would a little bit more than they would before, and say, Yeah, it's still worth trying, you know. And so that's the function of all those monkeys get together at that level to do that thing ... cause that's what white magic, ceremonial magic, is about, cause magic is working with vibes ... that we work all together for the vibes for the good of us all is the real thing. A magician is just someone who moves the vibes around. Like these scientists who first get into ESP and stuff like that? They get into ESP and start messing around at that level, and they don't know it but they're messing with magic ... see, and not only do they not know that they're messing with magic ... they don't know that there's various kinds ... there's a whole spectrum full of magic. It ain't black and white, it's like all the angstroms you can think of, it's the whole spectrum of magic. They're doing things on the basis of sort systems, like, can you get this person to know that person's thinking a thought, they don't care what the thought is, they just want to get a thing. They're not into believing it so much as to bother to keep track of what color of magic they're doing. That's why science's soul is at that level. That's also why we can be as high as we can get as long as we all keep our compassion going. Compassion is what keeps us tagged back into the bottom so we always know we are grounded. That's where compassion is, it keeps you grounded, cause if you let go at the bottom then you ain't in the monkey rules anymore ... you're in another set of rules ... a different place. (Q) Attachments to feelings covers a lot of interesting places ... one of the things about attachment to feelings is it goes all the way to, are you attached to your emotional feelings? Like I have some people say to me sometimes, I have these strong feelings. I say, Yeah, yeah. They say, You don't understand, I have strong feelings! I say, Yeah, sure, I'm hip, so what? It doesn't make any difference about where anything is at ... strong feelings aren't what does it. Like I have emotional feelings pass through my bod occasionally that are real warpers, man, you know, I feel some ... (n-a-a-n-n-g-g) ... You know ... what was that? (Laughter) Well, if I feel that thing and plug on to it and say, Oh my God, I felt a fear vibe in me, I must be scared, you know, and then invent something to be scared about. No, I just can't do that, like if I feel a vibe coming through me I say, Interesting, the astral weather is a little scared around here, somebody must be scared around here, man, it sure feels that way, huh? Let's see what's happening. (Q) There's a thing of like making a pentagram when you're going to do heavy magic. They have in old heavy magic books, you know, you always have to make a pentagram if you're going to conjure up something. Well, the thing about making the pentagram is that the five sides of the pentagram stand for the five senses, that they used to count in those days, and that you build a side of the pentagram when you take control of that sense. If you have control of your senses, that means you are in total control of your manifesting universe. (Q) Is there a devil? If you want. There's anything you want. There's just anything you want ... but there are certain structural things that happen. And the old thing of the Yang and the Yin is also like the two fish of the Pisces thing. One of those Pisces fish is Christ, but the other one of those Pisces fish is the Devil, and they go together just like a Yang and yin. And if you're gonna have a Christ you gotta have a devil. See? You can say, Okay, I'll check in at any amorphous level and put it all on continuums, and you can do that, that's what I do a lot of the time, but sometimes I need a Christ, and when I need a Christ I have a devil, too. But I don't always, it just depends on what I need at the time. But sometimes you gotta say, if you're gonna maintain a thing you gotta have two poles ... you know, it takes two poles to maintain anything, right? So that's what the poles are, for that thing. But you don't have to make the devil not be a nice guy, see . . the devil doesn't have to be not a nice guy. This is very interesting, like dig what you can do with relativity . . like you can have one kind of relativity where somebody comes and gets baptized, in a river, man, and a white dove comes out of heaven, and the people in the villages for miles around are astounded by what goes on. And the cat is so stoned that he stones everybody he meets for the rest of his life, you know, on a trip like that ... bangeroo! There is a ceremony of baptism which must take place for everyone of us, but maybe that ceremony took place when you were three years old and tripped and fell into a swimming pool, or maybe that ceremony of baptism took place in a hot bath somewhere with about seventeen hundred other people, and nobody knew it. See? That relativity is possible too, just so the ceremony happens ... just so the base gets touched. You don't have to make a big deal about it just touch base. Now this particular class meeting tonight is a very heavy class meeting, because of the astrological set-up because dig what's happening now, we're re-wiring our head for the next six months' session ... until the next equinox, because we had an equinox this weekend. Well, what happens on an equinox is like we came out of the one where the daytimes were longer than the night-times, and we were at the point over the weekend of where the daytime and the night-time are exactly the same length. And now for the next six months we're going on the trip of where the night-times are longer than the daytimes. See, just by the way the planet is tilted, and the way the sun works and all that ... all natural normal law things. Well, that changes some of the vibrational set-ups. Well, I don't sit somewhere with all my positive on one side and all my negative on the other side because if I did I'd fall in half. You know, that isn't how you do it. So I work it out like this, I can't say what any given arrangement will be at a given time but a little of me will be conservative and a little of me will be liberal and a little of me will be masculine and a little of me will be feminine, and a little of me will be soft and a little of me will be hard, and then some of me will be earthy and some of me will be watery, fiery, you know all around, the whole trip. Then, when we come up to the equinox, I want to stay balanced, but I can't stay balanced because the light-dark balance of the planet is shifting, man. The light-dark balance of the chess board is changing. See? So what you've gotta do is a spiritual tai chi kind of maneuver. A tai-chi place is one where you can move from one position to another position without ever losing your balance or dropping your stoned. It's a method of teaching you how to move and keep your thing together. Well, we're moving now over the equinox ... A little animal called the slow loris moves very very slowly, he only moves one foot at a time and the other three feet are solidly attached, and then he moves that foot and then the other feet are solidly attached. Well, you change your valences by that kind of a thing, and if it's the right time of the year that you have to be a little bit more masculine, come up a little bit more masculine for the time of year. Then you have to like push something else over there, though. You have to put something over there to balance that. So maybe you'll do it on how liberal or conservative you are on your value judgments ... might be able to be balanced on that. But you let yourself slide around here and there, you become malleable with the vibes. So now we're changing over the equinox and we're letting go of one kind of system, but we're keeping enough of it together to keep us solid as we move. So it is that at one time an action can be white magic and at another time an action can be black magic ... and so you have to do what is the right thing at the right time all the time. Otherwise you're just gonna run out a little excess of something and there's going to have to be an excess of something somewhere else or maybe right on your head. Now the equinox is the relationship of the plane of the earth's orbit, the tilt of the earth, the sun and the orbit of the earth around the sun. See, that's the relationship that varies to create the equinox situation. That's an astrological situation because the sun is a star and a star is astral. So there's one star really close there that really affects things a lot, and that star is like the largest single affector of our whole trip. That's why they come on behind Ra the sun god so heavy in Egypt. Because, you dig, the sun is ninety-three million miles away. It takes light about eight minutes to travel ninety-three million miles. The sun moves its position in the sky two diameters in eight minutes. Like one diameter, two diameters, and the sun's over here at the end of eight minutes. So by the time that light gets here the sun's moved over and you aren't seeing it anyway, so dig that there's a little curve like a hose running from the sun to here. Like you squirt a hose and you got a curve and you move it over and the water moves over like that ... sshheewwww ... well, the light comes over from the sun that way with that much bend in it from the sun to us. A little Einstein curved universe, that's where some of that works. So dig, the sun's like eight light minutes away, and we worry about the effect on us of like large bodies that are a long way away. Well, the next closest one after the sun, which is eight light minutes away, is a group, Proxima and Alpha Centauri and another one I guess, that is four and a half light years away ... four and a half light years away from eight light minutes. How many minutes to an hour, how many hours to the day, how many days to a month, how many months to a year ... you know, bangity, bangity, multiply, multiply ... all the way out there. And that's the next closest star to man, is that far away. And the other ones are all way out there, and the other ones get into like millions and billions of light years ... and in fact it gets to a point where they can't even talk about light years anymore because the light years get so small, and they're using so many of them, that the numbers are getting too big to handle and they start talking about parsecs, you know, and spatial measurements of weird varieties, because it's getting so huge ... and that's us out there, you know, that's us and that affects us all the way from out there. But the sun's pretty close, and this little trip we're going through right now is our little trip with the sun. Heavy ceremonies of the year are attached in that way, like the winter solstice is where a certain force of light comes back on. The winter solstice is the long night. And the reason you celebrate the winter solstice is it's the end of the long night, man. It's the end of the long night, and you're gonna start coming into the long day . . . so there's a celebration at that level. Most of our heavy religious celebrations are keyed in to that kind of thing, because it makes changes in our behavior. So for us all to know about this and be hip that we have to be malleable and let our things shuffle around a little will make it easier for us all to negotiate this thing. How many people found the weekend to be heavier than some? (Laughter) Yeah, me too. This is the way you really learn about astrology ... . look and see what happens. (Q) What happens when you meet the devil? If you meet the devil don't say he ain't a nice guy, don't get uptight with him. Shift your valences with him and remember that you and him are what is keeping this thing going. Because if you see the devil you're usually on pretty strong at the time. It puts you in a funny place. So when you look at him be cool with him. That's the trip, and that's what makes the yang and yin work, mali, is love at that level, love, existing between positive and negative. The thing that I was doing about having Christ and the devil wasn't making a dichotomy, I was saying that they go together ... those two fish in the Piscean symbol itself are those two, Christ and the devil. And the devil is merely a pole, an electrical energy relationship, and the heavier he is the heavier Christ is, and vice versa, and the heavier they both are, the heavier the whole scene is. See? The heavier the whole scene is. Like it is possible to have a universe with a fairly small Christ and a fairly small devil. Or you can have a universe with great big ones. Or you can get into a lot of dichotomy things . . like Christianity is one of the few religions that actually splits off a Christ and a devil. Most religions don't do that, you gotta remember what is the nature of the devil .. the tempter, the trickster, the shape-shifter. That's how we say maya ... illusion. The illusionist ... Satan comes from shaitan the illusionist. The joker is the devil, the joke is (raps stage) this illusion. See. That's what the trip is. So you can't put the devil down, he's making all this work. You see? Him and Christ together are manifesting the field that allows the manifestation of this (rap, rap) solidity to occur. So you get into Indian cosmology and you can find a whole lot of different sub-godlets carrying pieces of the Christ function and carrying pieces of the Satan function ... in order to decentralize it a taste ... It doesn't need to be so highly centralized all the time. Do you understand? Is this speaking to the part of the question that you were curious about? Okay. So, the thing about what you do when you meet the illusionist is, compliment him on the quality of his illusion and he'll love you for it, and it doesn't have to he a bad scene. But remember that it's illusion. Don't fall for it. Dig the quality of it, but don't fall for it. Say, Wow, man, that's a good movie. (Q) Is it possible to drag a demon out of hell? Ah. One of the powers of the bodhisattva is the power to go into hell and bring out a soul. Well, if you've ever seen somebody on a bummer and got to them and helped them out you were a bodhisattva and they were in hell and you brought them out. (Q) How to get out of hell? You have to plug up the holes in your bucket, then you get higher. Most people who are in hell are complaining. They think they're complaining because they're in hell ... uh-uh. They're in hell because they 're complaining. (Q) Getting hepatitis from helping someone . Well, I guess if you're gonna like share somebody '5 karma, you have to take what comes. When you go to help somebody ... if you involve your affairs with theirs the',' are your brothers and you share with them, and that's what that kind of karma is like. We found that out as a class when we went from Glide, when we used to meet at the Glide church, and when we went to Haight Street. We said, man, we're gonna go to Haight Street, and Haight Street was in a far out place at the time. It was very,' hard, there was a lot of speed happening and stuff. And So we said, okay, we're gonna have to go to Haight Street, and we're going to have to share Haight Street's karma. And we had some things happen at the Straight Theater that were really pretty heavy. And some people said, how come these things are happening? I'd say, man, this is Haight Street karma. We just split fields with Haight Street. That's why this is coming down. But we did split fields with Haight Street, and we stayed there as long as we could. We didn't leave because we ... you know, we left because they welded shut the doors to the theater. And we'd split fields with anybody who'd walk through the door. And it got us high, in the long run it got us high. And that was really important for us to learn, man. Well, we also had to pick up a little hassle now and then ... like one night we got down to a place where there was one light left in the building that would work. And it was an old automobile headlight wired to the balcony, it was the only light that would work, and it had a red jell on it, right. And somebody got mad at me and went up and kicked it over and somebody at the back of the theater says, What does it mean when your light goes out? (Laughter) We were splitting some heavy karma ... but I guess we did it okay because we're doing this now. (Q) What holds the yin and yang together? What holds them together is because they're the same thing, on a continuum, just different gradations. You start off with like love and hate and you come in and it's like strong attraction and pretty strong dislike, and you come in and it's like you dig and you don't dig and, well, pretty soon you can't tell, you know, you just can't give a hoot. And it's the same continuum all the way ... that's what holds it together is because it's the same thing, it doesn't need to be held together, it's one thing already. That's why if you find yourself in a hate place, love ... if you find yourself in a fear place, have courage. See, the antidote for an emotion that is unacceptable is its opposite one. Like the Buddhist scriptures say that the antidote for ignorance is enlightenment. I try to put everything on a continuum. I try to put just everything on a continuum that I can possibly wire on to one, because I don't want to get hung up on any large jump gear-shift things, because it makes my rubber peel a lot, you know. Like if you catch second gear too hard you squeak off a little chunk of rubber there. That's what happens if the gear is too tall, if you had several gears to go through between low and second gear you wouldn't peel, and peeling is a waste of time. So we want to have as fine a level of differential as possible until it has become real flow, till you can move from one place to another place gracefully, like dynaflow, not like shifting gears. Then you go to a real fine gear level place or differential for that kind of thing. That's what saves you from getting hung up in the dichotomies ... mobility on all continuums. And then you be appropriate in yourself to what's happening. And that's when sangsara and nirvana are one, when you're doing that. Moving on continuums lets you stay higher because you can make finer distinctions, finer judgments. You see, the universe needs all of us to be smart as we can and use our head as best as we can. If you're putting a sufficient amount of attention and intelligence into baking a cake that the attention and intelligence would be sufficient to govern a galaxy, well maybe you are governing a galaxy while you bake that cake. See. Maybe you are because there is no space-time on the astral, whoever is doing it is who's doing it. (Q) How to plug tip holes in your bucket? Sure. The first thing is to find out where is your attention at. You might not know where your attention is. There's lots of reasons you might not know where your attention is: here's one way that a person can lose their attention. If when you were a kid every time you were disciplined it was done by distraction, it was Oh don't do that, do this. You know, and you were distracted every time? Your attention gets batted around a lot, and when your attention gets batted around a lot it kinda withdraws and says I ain't gonna come out unless it's for something neat. And when you find someone like that, you see them once in a while turn on like really strong, you know, and just blow your mind and then just drop back about forty per cent, and you say, What was that? That was just them paying attention for a minute, man, that's what that was. So plugging up holes in your bucket is like finding right where your attention is, because if you don't know where it is you don't know what it's doing. And what you want it doing is getting you high by paying attention to everything that's going on, really digging it, not floating around in your head, not thinking about last week, not thinking about next week, not thinking about somewhere else. Like it's always here and now. You can't get enlightened tomorrow. You cannot get enlightened tomorrow. You can get enlightened right now if you're lucky, but not tomorrow. You can't get enlightened yesterday either. Too late ... down the tubes, man. Enlightenment is always here and now, that's what the flash is in some measure is the here-and-nowness of it. So then come to here and now, and then see what distracts you from the here and now. That's a hole in your bucket. One really good way to practice plugging up some holes in your bucket is to do tantric balling. It's really neat, tantric lovemaking, tantric yoga. How many people are hip to that? Yeah. Tantric yoga is the yoga of the nervous system, and as a sub-heading of that is the yoga of sex. Because sex ... I don't know what we think sex is, some of it is for babies, some of it is for manipulating your nervous system. For being able to do to your nervous system what you want done ... and you need somebody to help you, because you can't even tell if you are uptight by yourself. See? Because uptight can be zero for you, and you can have a wrong zero at that level. So like tantric loving is, instead of being two people in a rush to feel good ... you know, I'm gonna feel good off you and you're gonna feel good off me ... is two people sorting out their energy until they're both on. And you sort out the energy by being together, like don't be specifically sexual, just relax at first. And then you'll feel things, as you can feel things, loosen them, if you got tight muscles loosen them, if you're uncomfortable in a way get comfortable, keep doing that. You learn to perceive energy when you learn to perceive where the energy is. Had a thing happen to me once while I was stoned. I had my arm on the back of a chair, and it went to sleep because 1 wasn't paying attention. So I brought it back around in front, and I looked at it, and I thought mmmmm-boy I don't want to go through this long scene, man ... this arm, with all this stoned, it's gonna really feel weird. So I kinda moved it a little bit, and I could feel the energy, and I knew that there was a thing that I could do, so I moved my hand in a kinda ... like that way, and I put the energy back on and my arm came awake ... all in a piece, without feeling funny or buzzing or any of that jazz. I was sensitive enough to find the thing I had lost, which was like I had my physical arm separated from the astral one, but the astral arm, the electrical arm, was over here dangling like this, and the physical one was all lonesome out here, feeling funny. Putting it back in was like putting it back into a glove, and then my arm got well again. Well, that was a tantric trip actually, because that's the kind of thing you want to be able to get into when you're doing tantric loving. You want to feel each other's field, and know how to feel your way to get right into it, to be one with it, to be right there. And so while you're doing that your attention will try to wander. Because your attention is not impressed by anything . . . much. It'll try to wander from anywhere, until you get it trained. So while you're doing that thing and your attention wanders, you'll be there and one minute you'll be making love and you'll be all involved in that and the next minute you'll be thinking about that cat who said that funny thing to you yesterday. And then you notice that you're thinking about that cat who said that funny thing to you yesterday. And then you'll say, what in hell am I doing thinking about that thing now? What am I thinking about that now for, this is much more exciting than that was. And then you'll come back to the here and now, so you come back to here and now . bang! Aahhh, that's good, so here you are. .. and you find yourself thinking about your mother-in-law. Mother-in-law! Far out! What am I doing out there? So you grab your attention ... and here is the thing. If you just grab your attention and rip it off those wandering things . your attention is like a tentacle, you know, it's going looking for something to grab on. Well, when you rip it loose from one of those attachment places, like take it loose from that one, grab it, and bring it down and involve it in the situation at hand, right? Look around and see which part of your relationship in the here and now is not getting enough attention. Where are you shorting out, where are you touching someone and not knowing it . . see? And take that thing and say, well, my - my, here are a couple of knee bones that are together that I hadn't noticed were together. And pay attention to those two knee-bones, man, and turn them on. And hang on behind that because pretty soon you'll find your attention wandering again. And you have to snatch that piece of attention and fasten that down. In time you get all of your wandering attention tentacles grabbed and fastened back into the system that you're working on. Right there . . when you get all of your tentacles plugged back into the system, you got the holes plugged in your bucket, and you and her is going to get off. Well, that's one good way to learn about plugging holes in your bucket, because most holes in your bucket is your attention wandering. That's a real good way, because you can assume that anything else you're paying attention to is secondary, when you're in that situation. (Q) I make love because I want to get my energy together. It's my meditation, it's what I do instead of sitting in a lotus position. It's really neat. I got three other people who I'm married to, all of whom are interested in my being straight and I'm interested in them being straight. And so we all work at it all the time. We keep each other pretty well ripped off as far as attachments and stuff go. Like if somebody gets out of line and starts getting on an attachment trip somebody says, Hey, man, you're attached. We stay as high as we can all the time, and if we aren't high we're finding out why not. (Q) How do you deal with an attachment to an attachment? The classic case of that is like writers who don't want to get straight because they feel if they get straight they won't be able to write anymore. That's really a classic trip. It's just that attachments to attachments are bullshit and you let them go, whatever they are. (Q) What about excluding vibes. Here's the thing about vibes, the vibes are going to happen anyway. Because the vibes are going to behave according to the normal laws of field behavior. No matter what any of you say about that. See? In the old frontier colonies, the square-dance trip, they had the Virginia Reel. That's all the men in the community lined up in a line and all the women in the community lined up in a line. And the dance took as long as it took for each member of the community to do a little dance with each member of the opposite sex in the entire community . - - you know, swing your partner in front of you and swing the one next to you, then you go down the line and swing every lady down the line, and your old lady comes hack, and all that jazz. Well, look, in the Sufi trip for instance a lot of the transmission of magic or baraka or vital energy or life forces is done through dance. And the way it's done is the dance doesn't have to be fancy, all you gotta do is get several people together, stand there together, and go through the same motion at the same time. The dance neither has to be pretty nor graceful nor anything else, all it's gotta be done is in unison. See? And if you do something at the same time as somebody a few times you pick up their vibe a little bit. Your field meshes with theirs because you're both varying at the same kind of variable at the same kind of time - . . right? And that's how you transmit magic in the Sufi tradition. Well dig about a square dance then, like the Virginia Reel kind especially, where you got two lines with everybody there. You go out and you run through a real magical riff, man, and dance dance dance, both do the same dances together, whang-whang-whang, wind it up with each member, man, you vibe with everybody, all the way down the line. And all those chicks vibe with all those cats all the way down the line too. They call this a mixer, I think, in a square dance trip, and it really is cause it strokes the vibes. The early Puritan communities and the early Western communities were so small they couldn't afford a lot of shopping around and stuff, because the karma was too thick and too heavy, you got bad feeling trips ... .. they worked out a little ceremony, man, a little ceremony to stir up everybody's vibes, soak 'em all around together, then everybody could be cool about it. Also this thing right here is tantric lovemaking ... to be really accurate. Because we 're sitting here splitting fields and relaxing together, you know, and it feels better and better as we sit and do it. We get really stoned. (Q) I think you should be able to do a lifetime trip with somebody, and you can. You know. And it's really neat to do it. Like it's really neat to get with somebody and say, Okay, if I ain't straight with you I'm gonna get straight with you. And that's really important. Cause, if you do a thing like that, when you do get straight, you know how come you got that way, and you're really tight, and you're on for the cruise. But both people gotta want that to happen, if you're gonna have that happen. I was married a couple of times before I -- I feel very settled now, I really feel lifetime, I just feel solid as a rock, this trip, it's the best thing I ever had going, I really dig it. The major thing about my earlier marriages was that we weren't agreed on anything at all about getting straight or being straight or what straight was, and what makes a marriage of any number of people stay together is to want to be straight ... and then put the energy in it, put it on the rock, man, put it on the rock and you can do it. And if you make it with a lifetime mate you're really on for a good thing, because you can get more and more subtle, and heavier and heavier, and closer and closer, and more and more telepathic, and it's really lovely. You know, it's a good thing to work out. The nice thing about the particular four thing I do is . . wow, you gotta change everything and say, whole new electrical system, you know ... cut loose everything you know, 110 expectations, look and see what's here and now really in front of you. No expectations. You dig? That's what's really real. Find out what's in front of you and get straight with that. We really love each other a lot, we really groove. A tantric marriage is a spiritual marriage. Everything about it is a magical ceremony. Okay . I'll tell you how we got married. It happened to us, it fell on us one night, we were like really stoned and suddenly found ourselves all out of our bodies together and swapping around .. . And I knew what I got back was twenty-five per cent of what I put out and twenty-five per cent of everybody else. And we didn't talk about it, at all, at that time. And it blew all our minds. And telepathy was perfect. And then we sat around and got afraid to cop to it. You know? And we separated temporarily. And then, soon as I was alone with Margaret, I said, Hey, there's something really telepathic and really heavy went down in that last twenty minutes in there, and I want to find out what it was, and I don't want to be prejudiced by any of my information, so I'm not gonna tell you what it was. You tell me what it was. And if it's the same thing I thought it was, then we got something else to do. And she says, Well, yeah, and she copped that she felt that too. I said, If you felt that and I felt that, I betcha Michael and Ina May felt that too, how about that? She says, We better go ask. And they were there, and they'd been saying, Hey, how about that far out thing that happened ... Then we saw each other and said, Hey, how about that? And we got so stoned in copping to the communication, so ripped on that, and it was so fine and so real that we said, This thing is so real and that communication is so real that we'll stay together, to commemorate it ... forever. It's kinda late, and we can come again next week. Good night and God bless you. What we have going here is just a little bit ahead of something that's happening all over the whole country ... and pretty fast, and it has to do with people who are checking in behind an old thing or a new thing or whatever you want to call it. But there's a kind of truth that you know it when you hear it ... because it's there, because it's right, because it doesn't insult your intelligence ... because you can figure it out for yourself and see if that's the way it works. And a lot of that tape has been said so many times that we have to think of new ways to say it, because you have to like ... you can't just say it again. I was thinking the other day about, sometimes I have to say the same idea to maybe fifteen people in a day, because I might run into fifteen people in a day that have the same thing going ... stuff runs in cycles, I think that's astrological . . and I have to say it so each one of them can understand it, and that means that I can't just say the thing to them, because that's like playing a record. So with each person I have to go back and start at the beginning of the thought process where I learned that thing. And I have to run the thought process that I learned when I learned it each time I say it for it to be understood, and for it to be meaningfully communicated to the other person. It's not enough just to say the words. So we have this whole bunch of words that've been said a lot of times, like Love your neighbor as yourself is one. Resist not evil is another. Resist not evil's kind of an interesting one. How many people think that, for instance, politics is going to get us where we're going? Would you raise your hands? (No hands) Dig that? A lot of what this is is buying in behind the place of saying, Well, it says in the book that if I do it right it'll get right. It says in the I Ching, If you till the square-inch field then the square-foot field will be taken care of too. Resist not evil's like a subheading on a political place. The first thing you have to do if you're going to do anything about changing the world, I've found, is you have to buy it for perfect right now ... you have to buy it for perfect and become responsible for it in the condition that it is now in . . not say, Hey, let's get it neat and then I'll be responsible for it, but responsible for it in the condition that it's now in. (Q) Energy ... what is energy? A lot of things are energy. We are energy. This stuff is energy ... also this sort of feeling that we have here of being this many people stonedish together ... is energy. Energy's more specific than that, though I believe that energy's the Holy Spirit, I believe that it's the body and blood of Jesus, Krishna, Buddha, and anybody along that line. We're a dance of energy, arranged and held in the mind of God. Our human attention is energy, because we are energy producers, each one of us produces energy. it's silly for us to take each other off for energy when we're all sources for it. We're pouring it loose all the time, and we put it where we put our attention, that's where we point our energy to. It's real-life energy, like getting up and shoveling coal. But sometimes I just sit and sweat and I don't have to move. That's another kind of energy place, where I'm doing something but I'm not necessarily doing it with my hod. You can feel energy transferred emotionally, like a day of being stoned is equal to a day of working digging a ditch. We all start with undifferentiated energy, and then we hold an idea of our self, and if we lose that idea of our self we start to die. That's what happens to people, they lose their idea of themselves, and don't create themselves good enough to make it anymore. We're each one creating our own self and our whole universe. You are all God creating your own universe. Saying things like that is like throwing a rock out somewhere listening for an echo. It really is, because like when I say that you are all gods creating your own universe then there's implications that should arise in your mind, like this is the universe that you're creating right now ... see. Here we are. This is your creation ... each one of you. Each one of you creates all this. (Q) The energy is free, from in front ... inexhaustible, eternal, can't run out of it. See, the spiritual plane is the only one where you can really work a democratic spending process. Like the government runs in the red all the time, always in trouble running in the red, because it's having to move in the material plane. In the spiritual plane you don't run in the red, you just accelerate all the time. You don't worry about are you going to run out at the end of the drag strip, don't worry you're going to run out of gas, don't worry you're going to run out of tires, don't worry you're going to run out of horsepower. You just point it, and you go. Each one of us can consider that we can point it and go as hard as we want. (Q) He says that if we're all energy sources, how come some people seem to have a lot more energy than other people. One of the heaviest reasons for that is holes in your bucket. One man's energy will get one man high. See, I'm not even talking about basic survival level, I'm not saying that one man can survive on one man's energy one man's energy is enough to keep one man stoned. if he plugs up the holes in his bucket. The holes in your bucket are like selfishness, thinking about yourself, thinking about like how things might have been ... you know, going back over your memory tapes and re-writing them so they'll look better when you remember them. (Q) The thing I was talking about earlier was about resisting evil, here's more about how it works: If you get a pimple on your chin, the more attention and energy you put into it the bigger and redder it gets. And when you leave it alone then it'll go away by itself. Well, here's the thing that is one of the basic spiritual teachings that's been around for like ten or twelve thousand years . and it is that if you just quit paying attention to bad trips, pull your juice out of them, that they'll run out of juice, and they'll run down and stop. And they do do that, because the karma is a little slower when you're not stoned, but it's the same karma and it works the same way . . it's just a little slower, but it's not a bit different than when you're stoned. And where you cast your head you get that kind of thing. As ye sow so shall ye reap. Well, that means that in an energy relationship if you feel that somebody's on a negative trip, first you have to be accepting and free enough to say that they can do that if they want to . . cause they got free will . everybody's got free will. The next thing is that you also have a choice in the matter and that's whether you pay any attention to it or not. And if you pay attention ... this is something I've found out so many times trying to take care of people who bring me a bad trip to sort out for them you can straighten them and let go of them and they'll dive right back into it . . cause they're looking for it, really. People who really want help, you just make a suggestion and they do it . . and they get straight. I've seen that happen lots of times. If you put a lot of attention and energy into a down trip, then you're stepping on a down elevator. And the vibe may be exhilarating for awhile, but it gets pretty funky the farther down you go. (Q) The question is, how do you find out what's happening in the world without reading newspapers. Okay, here's how you find out what's happening in the world: Look around. What's more real, that, or some ink on the front of a newspaper? That's one way to find out what's going on in the world. The newspapers serve a function - if you got a bunch of monkeys together on an island and a leopard eats one of them, then the other monkeys in that vicinity go, yip-yip.yip jib jib jobber ... and just raise hell about that, because one of them got eaten. And the rest of them hear that noise and say, Hey, man, there's a leopard loose, hear that? Charlie just got eaten, there's a leopard around there. Well, that's what the whole function of newspapers is. But we already know all that. We ain't interested in knowing that again. Your own body is smarter than that -- if you cut yourself with a knife it hurts like hell when you first cut yourself, but as soon as that's over that initial pain drops down to a pretty negligible level ... and that's because the pain has served its function, and it's no longer necessary that that pain be grabbing into your head so hard, because you've got enough sense to take the knife out of your hand. So when you quit hurting yourself then there's no reason to dig the pain anymore. There's lots of times that the newspapers are just full of last week's pain ... that nobody's feeling anymore. Somebody was feeling that last week in the middle of the southwestern desert maybe, but there ain't anybody feeling that right now. And a whole lot of the stuff in the newspapers is just that kind of stuff . . raving monkey- chatter about pain that nobody's feeling right now. So, first thing is, like I just don't pay any attention to the newspaper, I very seldom even look at them. I don't listen to any radio news, cause it ain't news, it's olds ... news is something else, that isn't news. Another thing is, to find out what's going on around you, you got to dig that like, in the Space Odyssey flick, the pilot was in there with the seventeen TV screens around flashing, graphs and tensor functions and equations and all that going on . . that was to tell him where he was at. Well, if he was sitting right where we are he could do away with all of those graphs and all of those TV screens, because like the feel of your tail against the floor tells you which way is down. Right, You know that for one. And if your eyes are open you can see whether the lights are on or not. And you got all your equipment here, you don't need all that fancy equipment to tell you about where it's at. Not only that, but how you're doing is how everybody else is doing too . . pretty much, because you're influencing them, because you're creating part of their trip. So if you look around, and if it looks like a bummer going on around you, don't say you ain't involved until you're sure. You know, you might be doing it. The thing is, a lot of mankind's in a feedback loop. The feedback loop's a beautiful concept, because you can get high on them, and if you're aware of feedback loops, you can step out of fights with people too. Like if you find yourself in an argument with somebody, and you don't seem to find a way out of it, you might have to look and see . . Oh, this is one of those loops, and I got to forget whether I'm right or whether I'm wrong or whether he's right or whether he's wrong or any of that jazz, and slit the loop ... and get your energy uninvolved from a hassle. You can involve your energy in a hassle, and then sit there and be hassled by all your energy involved in a hassle. (Q) Attachment is the idea that we think anything that we have around us belongs to us ... for one thing. Like none of this stuff belongs to any of us . ., you know, not any of us. We just happen to get to use it for awhile. We're masters of it, because we have binocular vision and opposable thumbs, that makes us good at handling three dimensions. So we're that kind of a creature. But none of that jazz belongs to us, because it can't belong to us, because it, s merely a mocked-up creation that our minds have put together ... we agreed to a joke and then agreed to forget that it was a joke ... and it's the material plane. And none of us can claim it. (Q) That's another trip. The thing about attachments that's most real for us, 1 think, is the idea of being attached to our own feelings. That's what I find most people are really attached to more than anything else is attached to their own feelings. And they say something like, It made me really feel bad, you know, and I had to do it cause it was just going to make me feel awful, or something was happening that made me feel a certain way. You can't steer on that kind of information, for one thing you got to be non-attached to your feelings, because feelings are a crock. People say they do things for feelings, but they really do things for energy. Think about that . when you see a relationship going on, dig which way the energy's flowing, cause that's what it's really about, not the emotional noise that's going on. So just cut loose, and don't consider that emotions are reliable enough information for you to steer your head on, cause your head's a more delicate machine than that, it needs better information than that. (Q) Question is, the function of emotion ... well, emotion is a new function for us, because we're all coming on to awareness at the spiritual level, and emotion then becomes a way to talk ... it becomes the telepathic language, and we can speak to each other telepathically via our emotions. (Q) Let's see if this'll cover it. When you hit your thumb, you have a choice between saying, Ouch, or keeping your mouth shut and maybe getting smart enough to figure out that you don't hit your thumb again .. . you can dissipate all of the energy saying ouch, though. And it's the same when something happens to you, it's a learning process ... everything that happens to you is a learning process. If you sit around and say o-o-o-h-h-h, you can lose all the energy that the learning thing headed into you with, and you forget the thing. Like our girl fell down the stairs the other day, and it was because she was asking for it, she was standing at the top holding on to a thing and leaning out and showing off a bit ... and she blew it. And she went down about halfway, and it banged her up some. Mostly we panicked ... but after we got it together we said, Hey, we can't act like poor baby, poor baby, cause she fell down the stairs, because she fell down the stairs cause she was showing off. And maybe it's more important for her to learn to not show off at the top of the stairs than to he poor baby. The universe is a hairy teacher - it'll hint at first, and if you don't follow the hint it'll hit you with a cattle-prod. (Q) The idea of had karma is a kind of funny idea. Luck is Sort of English for karma ... is one interesting idea. But mostly for us had karma is to he understood as ideas in our subconscious which are still controlling us, so we don't have free-will choices to the extent that our subconscious is determined by stuff in there that's floating around. Some of your choices are going to he random, as you meet the world, rather than free will, and so a lot of stuff in your subconscious will affect the way that you make your decisions and will affect the way the world comes down on you. (Q) He wants me to comment on the phrase, This is the best of all possible worlds. I have to say that I believe that this is the best of all possible worlds, because here we are . just for openers ... here we are, we ain't somewhere else, we're here. And this is the best of all possible worlds cause it's the one that we all agree on. You see. In the material plane, which is to say this situation here, this hall this city, this state this country, and this planet, and this solar system and what have you systems out beyond that is the agreement that we have come to. We agree to those things now. We agree that the moon's there, and that action and reaction work like that, and because we agree to that then we can agree on making a rocket and sending it to the moon, cause we have all those agreements pre-made, from in front. And so there are some funny places in the agreement structure we say, hey, man, how come we agree to some of us getting like such a rough show sometimes? Why do we agree to that? Because it's the level of agreement that we have. We do the best we can with the level of agreement that we have. Now at the top level we all have perfect agreement -- it's perfect there because that's God . . . and it's perfect by definition from in front. And then as we get farther away, there gets to be a little less agreement . right now we have a pretty strong level of agreement. (Q) A mudra is a sign that you make ... you know, like this one means Fear not (raising hand, fingers together, palm outward) ... this is the mudra that means Fear not. You see Krishna and Buddha and people doing things like that, it means Fear not. Well, it's pretty old monkey stuff that says, Hey, I ain't got a rock in my hand. You know no weapons, nothing up my sleeve. Well, a mudra can also be moving as well as being still. Right? - mudra doesn't have to be just a static picture, but it can be a moving thing ... so like that's a mudra. And that particular mudra is almost the same kind of mudra that this is, because if you have a whole hunch of people doing a thing, that's a mudra too. See. And that's like a tableau, that kind of a mudra. And so we have things like pictures we see of the Christ child in the manger ... and you don't have to know a language or anything to know what that tableau means. You know, you don't have to like he Christian or have seen a manger, or any of that jazz. All you gotta do is look at those little set-ups that people put on their front lawn and say, Wow, man, lookie there, that kid's so heavy the cows know it. (Laughter) You know. That comes on really plain, really easy ... and that's what that tableau says. (Q) I'm hip to that, go ahead. I can't get into that, I've been crazy so many times I can't keep track anymore . . Why don't you tell them your experience, and then maybe we'll get it sorted out. Well, that sounds good, you know, you were really running cool there . . how'd you get paranoid -- I see the riff you got into, that's one of those riffs where the content of how you got paranoid is not the important thing, what's important is that it was a doubt trip ... you questioned for a second, was there enough of something. See. And it doesn't matter what you questioned was there enough of - the fact that you, at that place, at that stoned, questioned was there enough of something immediately put you into a place where there wasn't enough. That's when you get into words like deteriorating ... like scientists say that entropy is the universe running down, because nothing's happening, man, the universe is just running down. They think that it was like a soccer ball, that God gave it a kick and it's just going to run until it runs down. And they don't recognize the real thing, that although entropy is the running down, that life is the organizing, and that entropy and life are a stable structure ... and the universe stays the same, eternally ... between the forces of entropy and life ... and their interaction creates all this that we have here. So that's the way not to have got ten paranoid on that thing ... and the next time you get to that place is to remember there's always enough ... that the spiritual thing is eternal and inexhaustible, just all by definition. That happened to us one time, a very similar trip, where we felt ourselves manifesting, felt ourselves be at the center, felt like it was manifesting the mountaintops clear Out to the edge of the valley ... and then one of us had a question in our mind of, Wow, can we keep on building this way, or are we going to run out? And as soon as we did . ham, we ran out. But we could have kept on building that way ... just forever. And you can on those. As far as like the astral projection goes, the inner planes go into the outer planes. When you go into yourself you get outside . . if you go to your real true center. There's one seed in there I really want to get to, among the things you said, the idea of where is madness at and what it's about. In the first place, as near as I can tell, madness is a cop-out. I don't believe in it. You can just shift gears instead of getting crazy. Einstein's special and general theories of relativity cover that clause, and that's the one that says You can't go anywhere you can't get back from. That's ground-rules. That's just the way the game board's built. When you find ... like I've found myself on many occasions where I got to a place where I just had to look around and say, hey, man, this is about as nutty as it gets, isn't it? (Laughter) Or I got to a place once where I was convinced that everyone was against me, and then I got to a place where I had to make a decision ... my intellect rebelled at that much paranoia. It couldn't go on anymore, because I found myself asking myself to believe that the I Ching had been written to deceive me. And then somebody over in the corner, like that, says, Aw come on, man ... So I had to straighten up. (Q) Don't worry about that point, you'll get to your own point ... see. Here's the thing about the way God realization and universal realization and all that jazz comes down to you-it comes down absolutely convincing to you, in your terms, answering the questions that you have asked all your life, and giving you every wish that you've ever had ... you see. And that's how you know it ... when you see it. Because it's ... you know, it's your childhood dreams, man, right in the chops ... bang. Because we all of us, somewhere in us, have one of those places where we all used to think, Wow, man, grownups sure are screwed up the way they're running it. If I ever got to be grownup and got to be something I'd try to do better than that. And that little thing that every kid has thought at one time or another comes right out and says, 0kay, this is your chance. Gotta do something. And this is your chance to try to do something. You know? This is your chance. (Q) Tantric lovemaking and meditation techniques . . sure. Tantric yoga is one name for it, maithuna is one name for it, karessa's a name for it ... there are various principles involved. But a loose large principle that covers all of them is that it's how to manipulate your nervous system ... how to make your nerves do what you want your nerves to do. And there's various ways to change your head. You can change your head just by an effort of will . you can just say, 0kay, man, I want to have my head be different ... and change it. But if you're a little low on energy and therefore not too smart it's kind of hard to do that . . maybe. So another way you can change your head is say to your good buddy, your lady, or whoever that you trust, Hey, man, rub out my muscles for me. And there's a special way to like rub your muscles that's like a prelude to tantric loving ... and that's like to grab a hold of a handful of muscle and squeeze . for awhile, pretty hard, not so as to hurt, but pretty hard, and hold it for maybe ten or fifteen seconds. Pay attention and you'll feel a rush of energy come ... you'll feel a little as if your balloon was blown up a little tighter so your backbone got a little straighter, maybe ... that kind of a feeling ... a little juice come into you. And if you just rub on them that way ... it's good to start in the middle and go both ways ... start from the middle and go down your legs go up your body and off your fingertips. Squeeze as if you're squeezing something toward the end of the person's limb. Spend awhile squeezing each place and go to the next place and do it like that, and keep on going out toward the ends of the limbs, and don't quit until you get clear to the very fingertip ... and it's like you 're squeezing something off there ... and you really are squeezing something off there too. You're supposed to shake your hands a little bit, after you do it, because you pick up a little energy thing in your hands. If your hands start getting weak so you feel like you can't squeeze the person anymore, cause your fingertips are weak from too much exertion ... shake them a few times, and they'll get strong again. And you can continue, cause that weakness is what you're picking tip out of their muscles, along with the energy that you're picking up off them. Go really deep, like into big muscles ... like into arm muscles, thigh muscles, and muscles in your bottom, go in till you can feel the bone, and feel around the joints the actual joints, where one bone meets another bone, and just hold that place for about fifteen seconds. Tremendous rushes of energy come off that way. This is tuning your nervous system. When your channels are Open, you get where you can feel the energy in the other person as well as you can in yourself. And then you get where there isn't any difference between you and the other person as far as energy goes ... like you and them got this little bundle of energy, and you can push it back and forth, ant it'll get a little higher and a little stonier every time you push it back and forth. Movements in tantric should be slow ... very slow ... until you feel exactly the speed at which the vibes move, because the vibes move a little slower than you can move the physical part. So if you're making love you can outrace the vibrations until your physical part is ahead of the vibes, and if it gets too far ahead of the vibes the connection breaks and ... whoops, no more goodies, you lost it. So you got to be real easy and don't outrace the vibes, and hang right with them. Now when you're doing that, that electricity that you're circulating is the Holy Spirit real live, just like in the books ... that's what that juice is that you're circulating. And as you pump it back and forth between you and your old lady you're purifying it, you're straightening it out . . you're straightening out the vibes in it, because as we each have our individual petty hassles with one another . . . as we bump together in the world and go around, that makes little dents in our vibes. You can loosen all those little strings ... let all that out and that's what a lot of the tantric thing is, is when you're relaxed you're God. You're God without doing anything ... without trying, you see, for openers right off the top you're God. But if you're uptight about it, well then you're not being ... you only gain as much percentage of God as you let yourself be. If you can relax into it you're going toward your godlike state. And rubbing one another and making love, aside from having babies and all that jazz, which is really fine because it keeps our machinery working, is also good because it keeps our here and now machinery vibrationally clean and working right. Yes, baby. (Q) We're not talking about the same thing ... but we can be straight on this. We don't really have any dichotomy going here . . we have two different ideas of madness going. When I said that madness was a cop-out, I meant, for somebody to say, Hey, you better not mess with me, I'm crazy and I might flip. You know. That's what I call a cop-out. And I see a lot of people adopt a pose like that. Another way of talking about madness is saying madness is like what happens when you step into the astral plane too fast without any travel instructions. That's what I mean when I say madness is a cop-out. The astral plane we've all spent so much time in at one time or another is that very same world of schizophrenia that you hear people say that they're all afraid of But you can't be afraid of it if you've been in it for so long, because you know you got to start winging it and making progress, where you are you know, crazy or no, you 're still going to have to start doing your thing. Madness can be the astral plane when you're not prepared for it. If you're prepared for it it ain't madness you know, it ain't going to be too rough on you. It's a little more relativity than we were taught to in grade-school. (Q) Right in tantric yoga there's the idea very heavily that the male becomes receptive ... this is the way of flowing the energy. The usual way that we in the western world have an idea of, or are taught to make love ... well, in Hawaii they call man on top, missionary position. And part of the tantric thing is that very thing of saying, okay, lady, it's your trip ... all the way along you said you wanted it to be your trip ... it's your trip. And really she is the steerer, the helmsman, the guide. And if you say, Oh, let me just take the wheel for a minute, cause it feels so good, that's a cop-out. Cause that's the place where you're supposed to let her have the wheel. That way you can both get high. Instead of expending your energy in fireworks, you can both get high enough to get telepathic on it. (Q) People who can't get ego death? Usually they can't get it because they're trying so hard not to get it. Most people who can't achieve ego death are trying awfully hard not to have one. And they may not recognize the ways they try it ... like I was amazed about the third time I'd ever got stoned, my ego was already smart enough that as soon as it started coming on I started saying, I gotta have something to eat, man, I gotta have something to eat right now. And this cat with me says, You aren't hungry, man, nobody's hungry, that's your ego. I said, No, man, I'm really hungry, and we had to stop and cook groats, and I kept my ego that year too. (Q) Right, the death of the ego's defenses. I like that phrase, that's a good accurate phrase. He says to remember that it's not really the death of your ego but the death of your ego's defenses Which is the part that's the hang-up to your friends. Your ego is just your viewpoint ... it's cool, it's just your camera. But when it starts looking at itself and getting rear-view minors and defense mechanisms and stuff, then it's time to dip it in the sheep-dip again. That's what psychedelics are, just spiritual sheep-dip. (Laughter) (Q) What about Yogic birth control? I think women have that choice subconsciously, anyway, I think women have their choice whether they conceive or not. How many women feel that that ... that they really have a choice whether they do or not? Isn't that interesting? Yeah, I really think so. I think that if a chick is rejecting you, she can like take you into her bod, but if she ain't straight with you she won't take you into her soul, and I don't think you'll conceive. I think it's like that. And I think that conceptions happen when people are straight with each other, even if it's only at that moment. But they got to be straight for it to happen. Cause it's a new life thing, man, it's a heavy miracle every time. There's another kind of meaning offshoot in that thing you said that I'd like to chase down too, which is the idea of karessa, specifically, which is renunciation ... or the male not experiencing ejaculation at all ... which is another category of a tantric trip. In the tantric thing the male can withhold ejaculation altogether, because if your lady gets off good enough she'll get you off too, just on contact. See, that's part of what the tantric thing is about is to get your lady on good enough that she gets you off ... on pure contact, without you ejaculating at all. It takes awhile to do that. After you've achieved being able to do that I think that whether you have ejaculation or not after that is less important, it's just that you got to withhold it long enough to get stoned just to see what that's like. (Q) No, it's ... .He says you have a mental climax, it's not like you have a mental climax, it's like you go right up to a real-life climax and hang there for a long time ... just hang there for a long time ... I understand that like the Joy-Permeated Mother, who's a lady in India, has been hanging there for at least thirty years or something. The Joy-Permeated Mother ... and I've read several descriptions of people who've visited her, and one cat's description was like, I looked at her and she was the most beautiful woman I ever saw, and she was the most feminine woman I ever saw, and then I found myself become super-powerfully sexually attracted to her, and I started feeling guilty about that, and then I looked around the room and I saw everybody else was in there just sort of smiling, and I realized that it was cool, that's what she was doing to us. And they sat around, and she just like revved up until she just made everybody in the room, you know, come on behind it cause she's just that powerful in her love. She just sits there and vibes, Uh-huh . . yes . (Q) Yeah the woman is supposed to come because that's the fire that lights the bonfire ... and sets you all off. That's your spark plug. She just ... don't think of it as ... don't think of it as being that kind of a curve . . . you know, don't think it's me-me-me . bang, come down again. Go at it kind of gentle, take an hour or two and then coast a little at the peak and come off easy, easy off easy. Because there's lots left ... there's lots left for a long time. You know, and all the time you're doing that you're moving your vibe back and forth and purifying the universe you're purifying each other and you're doing a very heavy ceremony ... you're doing a very mahayana ceremony, because it's the one that says My meditation is not solitary. You know? Even my meditation is not solitary, because making love is my meditation, it's not solitary. I think we could cut loose here, we're at such a good place, and everything's running so good. Let's AUM a taste here . . let's just do a short and real heavy AUM . . you know? Just to get us off and go out the door with. All rightie . . let's go . . AUM I do various different kinds of things-I chant some, and I do some hatha yoga, and I do some raja yoga, and a few things like that, and I also do a little grass and a little peyote . . and I find out as I go along, the more I go along, that sometimes I can smoke some grass and not get high. But I find that if I tell truth it gets me high ... every time. So, if you find yourself to a place where you think you're as high as you're going to get, then back in behind a little truth, and start climbing up the ladder by hand. Because you can get as high as you want on truth, just be telling it as it comes. It doesn't even have to be about anything heavy. Because it's true it's heavy. Somebody ask you the right time, you tell 'em the right time, it's heavy, because it's true. Truth's got so much energy and so much juice in it ... I really feel good when I find out that I can say something true once in awhile, because when you say something true you can hook in behind it and ... what comes out of your mouth is the word of God, because that's what the word of God is, is truth. It doesn't matter who talks it, just so it gets talked. Truth is a hard master too, if you're gonna have truth for a master, you have to stand up for it, all the time. I think somebody said that you have to be runnin' or you're gonna be losin' ground actually ... Jesus said The truth shall make you free and that's really right on it. The only way that anybody can put anything on you is if they can make you swallow a lie. And if they can make you swallow a lie then they have a handle onto your head, you know, a handle that they can pull you around by and make you do one thing or another. But if you don't swallow a lie you don't have any handles on you, you don't have to do anything that you don't want to do ... if you hang in behind the truth. You know? Now truth's a funny trip, because if you really up and try to do it there's gonna be some resistance. If you're gonna come on and try to speak truth there's gonna be somebody around who's got a little hand in the till or a skeleton in the closet or something . . . a little ace up their sleeve, or ego in their back pocket, or some kind of thing like that, that's gonna not want you to talk. And there's various ways that they'll try to keep you from talking, and you have to pay attention to them. If you start to say something that's true, insist on saying it until you're finished saying it. Don't let yourself be interrupted when you're speaking truth, because it cheapens the truth to let it be interrupted. The truth's gonna come out anyway ... somebody's gonna speak it, you know. So you just might as well up and do it yourself -- it gets you stoned to do it. You have to notice that if you say something that's really true, that there has to be like a little second there so everybody knows that they thought that thing was true, you know, and don't let somebody drop in something lightweight too close behind it. You know what I mean? Like don't devalue the truth by shoving it up in too close a proximity with too low a level of truth you know? There's truth, and then there's sort of a tendency to devalue the universe too. The truth is true value, right on the money . .. ding-ding-ding ... comes on all the time. So pay attention if you speak truth and don't let it be devalued . . you know, just don't let it be devalued. Put value into it, with your effort. Because everything that we put out goes into making us all a little stoneder. Every time anybody makes an effort, they call that tapas ... in the Indian trip. Vishnu is the dreamer who dreams this dream, here, that we are currently inhabiting, and when he wakes up, this dream isn't gonna be here anymore. You dig? Like that. And they say that Vishnu didn't just appear there dreaming that dream, but that Lord Vishnu got to that place by tapas ... by effort that he applied himself, religiously as it were. When a baby is born it's God's opinion that there's room for one more avatar in the world. Each baby that's born has the potential of doing that ... of just going all the way and becoming enlightened like Buddha in one lifetime. Now the likelihood of them doing that is, you know, wide open at conception. And how much of that likelihood they continue to have and get to take with them depends on what kind of a family they happen to get born into. If mother's first impulse with the baby is a selfish one, then the baby learns a selfish first cause for this incarnation, and may have difficulty getting enlightened in one lifetime ... unless they happen to run into something really righteous, you know, or somebody, or some good psychedelic ... or some aggregate of truth. There's things that need to be said just because they're a standard of currency. Like I was talking with somebody who was talking about taking four or five tabs of acid. Well, there's nothing wrong with taking four or five tabs of acid, it won't really hurt you ... you know, and it'll probably get you high ... pretty high. But dig, one tab of acid is, by definition ... because this is what a dose of acid is ... more energy than a human being can handle. You see. That's how much is in one of 'em -- more energy than a human being can handle. And if you have holes in your bucket, it may not seem like very much energy, cause it may be running out of you as fast as it's running into you ... You may have so many holes in your bucket that the juice may not be able to gain on you. And holes in your bucket are like the subconscious selfish places ... not even subconscious, you know ... like the reason you get selfish places in your subconscious is that when you have selfish places consciously you get ashamed of them and shove them down into your subconscious . that's how they get there. Thing is, you don't have to be ashamed of a selfish place, you just have to straighten up. The universe doesn't require that anybody be sorry, it just requires that you straighten up. Truth is what's going on, never mind does it scan. Don't worry is it gonna make everybody sitting around jump for joy, speak the truth, and then we'll work it out from there. At least we'll have something that we know about for openers, like a stable datum to start on an agreed upon North, for a little beginning of our ... way we live, here, on this planet. Like, truth is the first cause. There are lots of ways to go to the top of that pyramid where God is, it's got a lot of sides. And one of those sides is love. One of those sides is justice, complete fairness. One of those sides is beauty ... true inner beauty ... but dig, truth is one of those sides too and the nice thing about truth is that it can be aspired to. If you don't happen to feel that you're beautiful, you may have trouble just changing your mind and deciding, I'm beautiful, right now. But you can change your mind and decide to tell the truth ... right now, anybody can. All you have to do is decide that you want to do it, and start working at it, and you'll get loving, and you'll become just, and you will become beautiful ... if you follow truth. It will take you to the same place. You're really such a bunch of stoners ... you're really keeping me high. (Sighs, whoops) I just wanted to lay that down, because I felt it was really necessary to say it, because it needs to be said every once in awhile, just because it's the real ground rules about truth. If somebody's trying to intimidate you when you're telling the truth, you say, 'You're trying to intimidate me while I'm telling the truth," clear to that level, all the time, and it'll keep you high. You can tell a little bit of truth every minute. (Q) I think we all have free will ... Everybody has that privilege, we all have free will. I think that even when some of us get hurt that it's come down as a matter of agreement, among all of us, that that's the way the karma has been shared out ... you know, because the karma has to come down. Jesus says, "There must needs be offenses, but woe unto him by whom the offenses come." And that means that karma comes down half-and-half, because this here world's made out of half-and-half, because that's the only thing we have to make it out of. You know, that's the only stuff we got. But we, each one of us, have a piece of magical equipment which allows us to assign value to something, or take value away from something ... and we can do that. So, we can put a great deal of value into the beautiful things of life ... and not attach much value to the things that aren't beautiful. You can place a sliding scale of value on it in such a way that you can make everything relatively beautiful You dig? Then the second half of that statement, the "woe unto him by whom the offenses come," means that even though the karma's going to come down half-and-half, don't get caught dragging down the dark half of the karma, man, or it's going to go on your account ... you know? And you're going to have to work it out yourself. You can spend a lot of time working out karma. (Q) Well, they figured them out to a point. They took the I Ching out of dichotomy ... the first chapter, the Creative, and the second chapter, the Receptive -and then the next sixty-two chapters being the first sixty-two breakdowns of dichotomy into multiplicity. Right? And they only carried it out to sixty-four, because if they wanted to take it one more step it would've been a hundred and twenty-eight, and they'd have had to write twice as much book. But they hoped you'd get the idea in the first sixty-four chapters ... The cat that wrote the I Ching was enlightened, because enlightenment is understanding ... and when you're enlightened you understand the way the universe works. And when you understand the way the universe works then you're not uptight with the way the universe works. You just say, Okay, man, far out, it's a clean machine, I'll check in and do my part. You know. Enlightenment is not necessarily what happened to Saul of Tarsus, where a white light from heaven came, smote him between the eyes, knocked him on his can, and he got up and changed his name, man, because it was so heavy he said I ain't even that cat no more I'm somebody else. That's one kind. But there's another kind where somebody who's been sitting zazen with a Zen master for thirty-five years wonders in his head if he might be in telepathic communication with the master, and the master winks ... And it's just as heavy ... So there's all kinds. There's a monk who got enlightened and decided he knew everything, and went immediately to his monastery to go tell his brothers that he knew everything. On the way he ran into a monk who looked at him and says, "Oh, you're the guy who knows everything." (Q) Question about me starting a school for children ... Yeah, I'm quite interested in something like that. What I had in mind is like school where the teachers believe in vibes ... you know, so the kids will be held responsible for all of the planes they 're operable on, because all these beatnik kids are telepathic, and they'll turn into terrible rip-offs if you don't teach 'em. They'll just raise hell if you don't teach 'em. They got to be held responsible for every plane of communication they have. I believe that a kid can be busted for bad vibes ... you know like put in bed just for bad vibes, he doesn't have to say anything, just bad vibes, that's all. Sometimes we put our kids in the bedroom and say, You an come out when you can get us high. (Q) If your baby doesn't want anything to do with you, one of you's on an ego trip, you or the baby ... and so that's what you got to find out. Voti know, I can't tell you that from here. But you got to sort that out, because if a baby has been distracted, or if a baby learns it doesn't have to pay attention to anybody, when it won't. You know, like you can . Hey, Robbie, Robbie. Cool it ,get out from behind there. Go on ... all you kids. Go over there. Don't sit right behind me and raise hell like that, cause it's not fair to the other people - - it rips off the attention so that nobody can pay attention to what's going on. Right? Thing is, if you're gonna learn how to deal with kids you got to learn how to come on strong without a bad vibe. Don't think that you have to come on nasty, but you might have to come on strong ... you might have to roar like a lion ... .you know. So you're gonna have to learn how to roar like a lion without any bad vibes in it ... without any anger in it, without any guilt in it, without any blame in it ... just a little juice, kid, to attract your attention. Like that. Any questions about that? (Q) Because of the question of responsibility. Responsibility means ability to respond -- like a child can grab off a larger chunk of free will than he is physically or intellectually capable of being responsible for. That means that a parent is responsible for the child's karma. The thing about the responsibility of the kid is like the thing about the cat again, you can let go of a cat and it'll land on its feet, but you can throw a cat so hard that it can't land on its feet ... and then it's not "its" cat anymore, it's "your" cat. See? Well, the same thing in reverse direction for a kid-you don't give a kid the chance to decide whether he wants to drink rat poison or not. You see, a kid has free will, and he can decide whether he wants to drink a bottle of rat poison or not, but you don't give him any free will on that point because he hasn't got any better sense than to drink it. You dig? And it's that way with a whole lot of things about kids - . . like the rat poison's a heavy trip, you know, cause that's just to shock your head a taste about how heavy it is. But, you know, like all the way across the board ... if a kid gets to where he can't pay attention to you, because you've lost his attention, then his attention's just wandering, and out in the universe, and will fasten on any piece of wandering stuff that goes by ... you know, and then it's off to the races, on a random program on his life-style. The idea is that you want the kid to know which way is up. If you stay in a one-to-one truth contact with a kid, by telling them honestly what it is that they're doing, and how it is that it affects you, honestly, all the time, then when they're fifteen or sixteen years old they Ye not strangers, they're still your friends, they know what's happening, you're probably getting high together . That means you're gonna have to point which way is tip, and keep pointin' that way until they catch on. (Q) About reading the signals from a kid? Yea, that's a very heavy trip. Kids learn subtle-plane facial gesture and mudra stuff, way pre-verbal, in their first few months of life. When a kid learns to smile, then he's in communication . - . That's usually one of the first ones, to smile or pay attention. So, I've seen a kid who never had any attention paid to him and it was like nobody ever reached out and grabbed on. The kid was just flopping . and it took a long time and quite a bit of work to be able to just get the kid's attention enough to say hello . to say Are you there, are you inside there, are you real . what's happening? I know grownups like that too, because nobody ever did get their attention, and so their attention belongs to whatever sign-board is beside the freeway, if it happens to be painted day-glo. Their mind belongs to whatever professional mind-copper can cop it ... because if you don't know where your attention is, then you're wide open to having your head copped by anybody that can cop a head ... and that's like Madison Avenue, what have you - . . politicians . - . Head-coppers of one kind and another abound. The idea is that if you know where you're at, it can't happen to you. Everyone has his yes and his no, independent of psychedelic energy. That's a heavy one. You really ought to remember that one, because sometimes somebody'll show you so much energy that they'll expect you to knuckle to juice ... Uh-Uh. Don't ever knuckle to juice. If somebody's gonna say, "You don't have your yes and your no, and I'm gonna conic on to you with power to impose that on you," just check in and say, "Uh-uh, I ain't gonna buy that." And don't buy it. Whatever it takes, just don't buy it. Because nobody has to -- it's not in the contract. If anybody convinces you that you have to buy that, it's a burn . . cause it's a lie. You see. When you're one with the will of God, then you can see where power is at . - . and power that's from God doesn't work that way. Power that's from God doesn't impose itself on anyone ... it doesn't force. That's just part of the way that contract works. (Q) Question is about suicide in connection with karma and God's will. Suicide's a cop-out. It's saying, Oh I think I know best about this here thing. But you really don't, because if you just hang on - . . it's like I used to drink and drive a lot, and I used to therefore get in a lot of wrecks. And I had enough of 'em that I began to figure 'em out, and I finally quit havin' 'em, because I saw that there's no such thing as an accident, at that level either - . . there's no such thing as an accident. And what I found out was that I was playing ego games with myself about how fast I could drive, or some trip like that, and that it wasn't like an accident at all, you know, it was something that I bought, asking for it. As far as the karma of it goes, I think taking yourself out of the game is not an answer, it just means that you're leaving stuff around for other people to sort out ... you know, you couldn't stand your subconscious if you did that, so you leave it around, and everybody who cares that you did that has got to like sort it out, you know, that karma's got to get sorted out anyway. You don't solve it that way, you just leave it for other people. So I can't figure that it's ... you know, the best kind of karma. As far as God's will goes, to know what is supposed to go down, the only thing we can do is to look at what did go down. Watch and pay attention to what did go down, because that was obviously what was supposed to go down, because we all agreed on it . . - or it wouldn't have gone down. I can't see why anybody would get in that kind of a place, actually. I think that to open your eyes, the first time, here, is a blessing. You know? It's just a stone blessing ... regardless of anything else. Never mind anything else at all, it's a blessing to have got to do it. It's the kingdom of God twelve gates to the city, the twelve signs of the zodiac, through which we are born into here, the kingdom. This is the kingdom ... you know. So it's funny to want to leave it. (Q) Relationship between truth and devotion... I think truth is worth having devotion to ... like I am very devoted to truth. See. They're two different words, because you can put 'em together in a sentence ... on that kind of a structure. You can't say I'm very truth to devoted dig, cause it just ain't grammatically possible. So devotion, in the Indian thing, is bhakti yoga ... Bhakti is a specific kind of yoga, the yoga of devotion ... and a person who is good at the yoga of devotion can come up and really look at an image or anything that will give them an attention focus, and they can really rev on holy behind that. They can look at a picture of Jesus and they can remember where Jesus was at and think about what kind of a cat he was, and how heavy a trip it was ... to walk around knowing all that for all that time, and to be raising people from the dead, and you think about what's it like if you're a human being and you find yourself with the power to raise people from the dead, man . wouldn't that do something to your head, wouldn't that blow your mind a taste? And a cat can get on, and he can rev on holy behind it. And then other people can like dig him doing that ... see, that's bhakti yoga. So that's what a bhakti yogi does a lot of, he just lies around and he praises God ... you know? And when he's doing that he's really high . - . and you can get high just by digging him doing that. It's a specific kind of yoga to exercise a specific emotional muscle. It's good for you to exercise your devotion muscle, so you should be devoted to something truth is a nice thing to be devoted to, it's a groove. So is Jesus, and so is Lord Krishna . . . all that. Hare Krishna is a shorthand way of saying you love and respect Lord Krishna. I love and respect Lord Krishna because I know what kind of a gig he had. He was out there doing that thing too, just like all those people are. It's a heavy trip getting out there on the edge and pushing the thing along. But you're thinking of truth as being exclusive. Truth isn't exclusive. The thing about truth is it just rings, when you say it. One way to find out about truth is to talk when you're high . . - while you're really stoned, and pay attention to what you can say that gets you high . and what you can say that brings you down ... that's one way you can find out what truth is, because speaking lies when you're high brings you down and speaking truth when you're high gets you higher. (Q) The question is, is satori to the mind what orgasm is to the body? Not necessarily -- . . although you can achieve satori through orgasm. Satori is specifically the clean, wide-open and honest telepathic communication between two open minds. You've heard a lot of stories about how heavy satori is ... well that clean honest open communication between two human minds is that heavy thing that you're heard all those stories about. Because when two human beings really come together the first thing they realize is, if everything I know now is true, and if I just got into communication with this cat, and he knows all that, and all that's true ... then all that's true, man, all the way out there. Bang, flash ... you know? White light, samadhi, and satori ... are sort of sometimes the same on some levels, and sometimes not -- that's why you're asking the question obviously. Samadhi is the state of like being really stoned, being in Christian terms in adoration ... it goes on a continuum, stoned, stoneder, stoneder, stoneder, real stoned, really loaded, and then you get into holy ... and it gets really holy, and then it gets really holy, and it gets to holy, ho-o-l-e-e, h-o-o-o-l-e-e-e like that, you know. And when you get ... like you're just holied on out, so you can say that on the holy continuum you are stoned, then you're in adoration. And adoration's just like samadhi ... and samadhi's the super-conscious, and it's always telepathic in the super-conscious. Samadhi is where you get to that place where you can open up to another human being when you want to. Samadhi can be the kind you first get when you're sitting cross-legged, and you been meditating for twenty years ... or when you get stoned, it goes ram-bam, you know, it does that thing to you. But then you get to another kind, where you can walk around with it on . and walk around, look around, pay attention . . you don't have to like sit there and hang on to it that way, because you become loose, and you become free, and when you become free then nothing hangs you up too much, you can always say it's all part of the action . . you can check in behind it. Then ... that particular kind of samadhi, the walk around with it on kind, is what they call nirvakalpa samadhi ... that specific variety. And . . let's see, white light is, in our terms, I would say, overamped ... man, just flat overamped ... more juice than you can handle ... bang, like it's the place where it starts coming on heavy, and you say, "I'm heavy, I can hold the circuit-load" ... and you sit there and you hang in behind the vibe, and you're gonna heavy on out, you know, and it gets psychedelicer and psychedelicer, and you say, 'I can handle it, man," and it gets psychedelicer and heavier, and you say, "I'm sure I can do it," and then it just turns on, man, and you let go and say, "Far out" . . And then it goes into white mind, white bod, white tongue, white toes, white nervous system, white ear . all of it's white, because every cell is overamped then. And that blows your mind and expands your circuits . . and expands your consciousness, and when your consciousness gets expanded then you know more cause you take in more, and it just goes on out like that. (Q) - . . About samadhi, satori and stuff like that . . how has it affected me in my relationship with other people on the physical plane. Is that ... (Riff goes on) I - . . again -- I didn't quite catch you ... Don't look disgusted, I'm tryin'. (Riff goes on) Oh, and how I relate to people on the physical plane? Oh boy, it really helps me to relate a lot better. (Riff goes on) How effective am I - . . at relating? Pretty good. Like in my relationship to other folks - . . I don't know -- I used to be a lot different than I am now in a lot of ways. I have in my time been in on some relatively unsavory movie film, which I don't usually sit around and play anymore. But I can without it freaking me. But I don't look at it all the time, because I got better movies than that now to look at. It changed everything - - - It changed the way I look. I really don't look anything like I used to look, I became a whole other person, my bod changes. Got a whole new kind of bod -- whole new relationship of me to my hod, 2f my hod to anybody else, of my mind to anybody else - . . who my mind is, who 1 am. I'm a piece of equipment that is at the disposal of this piece of the universe, because we need one of 'em, and anybody can run me who's honest. Yeah. Shoot. (Q) The question is, is that I ain't real because I talk about what I can do. What I'm currently doing is demonstrating truth by showing what I can say and not come down -- and I ain't comin' down, you notice. And the next thing is, I ain't boasting, because I ain't got anything to boast about. What came on to me came from God, and I'm just really happy that it came on to me. It answered all my wishes and all my childhood dreams, and it gave me everything I wanted. I lack for nothing. I lack for nothing at all. "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil" -- you know, it's like that. (Q) He says, all at once or bits and pieces? Both. Like some of it started a long time ago, and I didn't know it until recently. Like, when I was in junior college I was twenty years old, I'd just gotten out of the Marine Corps and I was in a funny place -- I was like a wolf in the fold, because everybody else in the junior college had just got out of high school, and I'd just come back from Korea, and I felt heavy behind it. So, I started wolfin' a little at that level --- you know. And one time a girl came up to me, who I didn't recognize and who I'd done something to, and I didn't know what I'd done to her, because I didn't know who she was, or what it was I'd done. Well, what she did was she stopped in front of me and she says, "You think you're smart, and you think you can cut people good, and you think it's cute to do that, and you don't think anybody cares ... but I care." And then some years later I looked back at her, and I realized, that was a guru. You dig --- that was a guru. You're really lucky when you run into one of those, because it's God talking to you out of the nearest person. So there's that kind of stuff happened and helped out a lot. And then there's places like -- I tried a bunch of kinds of things, because people told me it's where they were at ... like education. If there's nothing else going on, I can get a lot of degrees, and do that kind of trip. And I used to teach in that kind of a place, and I enjoyed the people, I dug being with the kids. But I couldn't relate. I was one of the kids. I could put on a Brooks Brothers suit, but I couldn't make myself believe it. I was kind of a beatnik before I went to school too. And then I got done being in school, and I found out that I'd rather be a beatnik. Then I started getting into psychedelics. And when I got into psychedelics I found out what was wrong with what I was doing. And so I quit doing it - . - and went out just to find out something to do. And so I was on a path . . . there's bits and pieces, bits and pieces, bits and pieces going along. I took a psychedelic about twenty-five times and sometimes I saw some pretty colors, and sometimes nothing much happened, and sometimes I was just confused and didn't know what was going on. And then I went away out of the country for about a year or less, and then came back and took some psychedelics. And when 1 came on to it ... bang. That was the heavy flash for me. I'd had white light earlier but I didn't know anything, I'd just had white light - . . a-a-ah-h-h for awhile, and I came back sort of saying, "Well, I guess I'm supposed to straighten up ... I don't know very much else about it" - - it was undeniably heavy, it was the heaviest thing that had ever happened to me, but there wasn't much content in it. But on this trip I saw so much that I just like boggled for weeks - . . you know, just walked around boggling, I could barely pay attention to the material plane, because my head was running over all this stuff that I'd seen and thought and been and felt and -- and places that I'd realized. I'd read a lot of religion when I was a kid, but I hadn't been able to make it work, because it didn't have any juice. I'd never seen anybody with any juice. I'd heard there was supposed to be heavy people, but I'd never seen one, I thought maybe they'd died out a couple of thousand years ago or something, and we just weren't in that strain anymore. Then when I got high that time I found out that there were lots of heavy folks, because I found myself face to face with a whole mess of 'em all at once ... you know. Then I couldn't do what I knew ... you know, at that place, that was another whole place too, cause I knew just, wow, a lot ... but I couldn't do it ... you know. I'd go out and I'd try to tell somebody about what I knew, and I'd get my head copped. Then I'd go home and say, "How'd that happen, whatever happened to me - . .1 was feeling really heavy a minute ago, and then ... wham." Because I couldn't keep my energy .. . I'd drop my chi every time anybody'd thump me. The main thing is, that I found out that it's easy to get high, it's harder to stay high. The way you stay high is with truth. Then it's only been like for this year that I've felt like I've had an actual commitment to truth, to the point of - . . Like I used to say, Well, I'll just ignore some of this, because it's none of my business. But I don't do that anymore. Everything is my business, and I don't ignore anything unless that's what I'm supposed to be doing to it. And if I'm supposed to ignore it, then I will, and it's hard to get my attention to it. But I'm involved with everything that's going on around me, because I'm on this trip, you know - . . and I dig it. And I'm going to do everything I can to make it groove . and encourage what other monkeys I can that want to do that. Yeah. (Q) Ah. He's saying he found free will inconsistent with God's will. That's saying free will and determinism in a sense. The way that works is that it's not either/or, it's a continuum, and you have free will all the way up to when you willingly merge your will with God - - . when then it's all God's will. The question of free will is, Are you gonna straighten up or not. And you always have that option. But then, to the extent that you know what's going on, you become more free. If you really don't know what's going on - . . which is like blind to the truth, or like being completely wofidly or something, you say you really don't know there's anything going on besides the meat part. Wow, there's a lot going on besides the meat part. And if you don't know it, then you're pretty much determined. You're determined because you're an effect rather than a cause - . . right? The universe moves and you bounce around it. But then you can go from that place all the way to the other end, to where your will merges with the will of God. And then your will and God's will are one - . . and you have absolute free will under God too, because you are God, and God has absolute free will. The more truth, the less determinism. The truth shall make you free. (Q) That . - - He says the more you combine interests with the race. Right, that's also coming in tune with God's will, it's the same thing. (Q) No, you can't - . . you - . . No, dig, here's the thing, we as individual entities have a choice of whether or not to love God. And God must give us that choice, because if God does not give us a choice of whether to love him or not, then God is merely masturbating with a long handle, he's got a robot out there - - - you know if that's the case. And that ain't where it's at, because God lives on love -- love is where God gets his juice too. Love God. And I don't think that those -- any of those -- are dichotomies, I think all of 'em are continuums in varying directions. You know. There just ain't any dichotomy involved in that, to me. It's like the enlightened man is not above karma, the enlightened man is one with karma. And what he does is the same thing the universe was going to do anyway. Like Christian freedom -- if you're going down Market Street, right, and you come right down to the end of the tunnel, there by Castro, and you're all the way over in the left-hand lane, and you're right up to the entrance to the tunnel, and it says, "Left Lane Must Turn Left." Well like if you're in that lane, and you want to turn left, and you must turn left, that's Christian freedom. (Q) Question is, someone wants me to say something about celibacy. I have three spouses -- I consider myself to be a chaste renundate monk. How's that? Okay. (Q) Are satori and white light accompanied by fear? Only when you are holding, because I've seen times when it didn't seem scarey, and I've seen times when -- 1 think the fear is the amount of ego you're holding when you go into it. You know, paranoia and ego are inversely proportional -- the depth of your paranoia is exactly the height of your ego. Because paranoia is when you know you're holding, and it makes you nervous, cause you figure you're going to catch it sooner or later -- right? So if you're coming up on white light, and you're holding heavy, it makes you very nervous - . . (laughter) because it is gonna do it to you, that's what you took it for. (Laughter) But just the thing of the effort -- the tapas -- the effort you generate to not let that fear take you over -- is the effort that will put you right over the top, and stone you. And as far as going into those places - the easier you can let go, the better off you are when you come back. In the Tibetan model they say that there are six worlds that you can be re-born in. The way that it is determined which one of these worlds you'll be born into, is how much kickin' and screamin' you did on the way out. You see. And so like if you went out like Aldous Huxley ... I heard he was stoned on psychedelics the last five days he was alive ... right? And I hear he went out really serene and gentle . . really pretty. And so that means that that piece of energy's gonna be re-born as an enlightened teacher for us all. Because he went through his ego death, his death death, clean and didn't scramble his brain. So that nice clean put-together head that he spent all his life putting together so pretty ... that orderliness is still existent. There's various ways you can get re-born. If you go out perfectly clean, you come back as a teacher. If you go out pretty clean, you come back as a titan. Now a titan lives on the mythic plane, the world ... of dark green light, and heavy battles between good and evil. Super-heavy good/evil confrontations go on on the mythic plane. People who are in that plane are always in a big hassle, but they're doing it for the right, you know, that's crusaders and St. George and England, and such. Then in the next plane after that, there's like ordinary people ... and you just come back no worse than when you left. And the next plane is to come back a little neurotic, and the next one's to come back a little psychotic. And the next one's to come back into what they call the sub-human world. And you don't have to live in an anthill to be an ant -- New York City will do fine. There are people who live sub-human existences in human bodies. Because that's how they were re-born. Well, scratch those six Tibetan levels and make it an infinite continuum ... right? There's lots of ways you can come back, but it depends on how gracefully you let go. Okay, goodnight. See you next week. We made a statement last week about enlightenment, and I have a statement here about enlightenment that I want to read to you. It's by Suzuki Roshi. He's the Zen master at the local Zen center. He's a real live one. This is what he says: "To be enlightened may not be so difficult. What is difficult is not to be caught by enlightenment or to be attached to it To express enlightenment in each moment is to live each moment afresh, without ideas or attachment anywhere. You can be trapped by your own way'. You should not try too hard. To be sincere is not to make haste for attainment by self-centered ideas but to sit zazen for the sake of your big self. Do not make haste. Do not try to do something ahead of time or behind time. If it is raining out, do not walk fast, because it is raining everywhere. My master called me Crooked Cucumber. I have seen many good Zen masters, and I do not think I can be a good Zen master, so I should not work too hard. Please walk in the rain with me. And if I am too slow for you, please go ahead of me." Jesus used to say that he could cast a demon out of your head, but that if you didn't shut the doors and windows yourself, then seven demons worse than that one would come back in to take over the empty head. This is an idea about an enlightenment, and about the power of an enlightened teacher. Some people come to me and say, Okay, if you're enlightened, zap me straight. You know, say Zap, you're straight. As I read the book and as I understand it for myself, Jesus couldn't do that, Buddha couldn't do that -- there's something in the contract about free will. I can tell you paths that will take you to enlightenment, I can show you paths that will take you to enlightenment, but you have to work yourself ... you have to walk 'em yourself. I can't walk 'em for you. You got to do it. You got to make the effort. I want to know what's with my head. I think we all need to know what's with our head. We've already been given a flat miracle ... that psychedelics came down the way they did in this culture and put all that power into spirit in such a way it couldn't be mistaken is a miracle. We don't need another miracle. Like the miracle is that spirit is ... that there really is such a thing as God. The miracle is in the reality. There's a Zen story about a priest who was told by a cat who said, 'My master can hold a paintbrush on one side of a river, and his disciples can hold a paper on the other side of the river, and he can write the name of the Lord Buddha through the air so it appears on the paper on the other side of the river. "What is your miracle?" The Zen master says, "'My miracle is that when I'm hungry I eat, and when I'm sleepy I sleep, and when I'm thirsty I drink." That's plenty of miracle. And that and a little weed too is unbelievable. I've never taken the kind (if trips where I close my eyes and check into the astral plane and went doing that. Every trip I ever took was eyes open, on deck, paying attention to what was going on right there. And I've been told there were other places to go to. But I didn't find them interesting enough to go to them, because I wanted to know what is happening, right there, cause that's where it is. Right here. That sunrise this morning was miracle enough. A pretty miracle. The miracle is not that you can't knock me down, my miracle is that I know how to get up. And I can teach you how to get up. After you get up a few times it gets easier. I get the use of a lot of psychic energy sometimes, and people say, Well you can do it because you get to use all that energy. Well I didn't have any energy when I started doin' it. I got the energy from doin' it. I learned how to handle it. I didn't spring out of a lotus blossom knowin' where it was at. I figured out where it was at by paying attention for a long time, sometimes when it was really hard. That's how ... that's what works. I paid attention to the here and now, not to somewhere else. I didn't pay any attention to prophecies, I didn't pay any attention to things that were supposed to happen some other time and some other place. I paid attention to what was happening in the here and now, and took care of business in the here and now. I got straight with the people who were closest to me in the here and now. What I find from a group like this is that there are people who really do want to know. And that's another miracle: that there are people that are interested, that really want to know is a miracle Life isn't random . . you know, it really isn't random. You get back out of it exactly what you put into it. if you put the real thing into it you get the real thing back out (if it. You can take a ton of psychedelics and make it into a honkytonk circus trip, if that's what you put into it. You can take any amount of psychedelics and not get spiritual, it's possible ... because you're the creator, of all time. There's as much power in anything as you put into it. If you're a good Catholic you're supposed to be able to get it on on a host wafer ... a piece of unleavened bread ... supposed to stone you. It'll get you off if you know what's in it. I think what I spent the most time doing, of all the time I was high, other than the time that was spent grooving and digging it, was working in small groups of people trying to figure it out - . . where was it at? You know, how come you look that way? What's happenin'? Hey, what are the vibes like? Anybody else feel this way'? What's goin' on? Working together in small groups of people like that, tellin' the truth, you can get high. You can smoke grass and not get high, then you can tell some truth and the weed'll come on. And you can get high without the grass, just on the truth. Out in the woods I found out what kind of territory of mind that mind should expect. Like a hoot-owl is a pretty heavy animal -- he integrates about a square mile Every time a hoot-owl goes hoot, everything in a square mile knows that. You know? And they say, synchronicity, we're all in here together. We all heard that hoot-owl together, we all know that, cause we all know the same thing, and if we all know the same thing then we know what each other knows. Right? That's the way the crickets are. Like each cricket got some room out there. And he gets out there, and he chirps -- you know. And he chirps, and that one chirps, and that one chirps, and they keep chirpin' for a long time, and they get so all the crickets on miles and miles of ground are all chirping together, man, all in unison -- all together. They just do it cause they keep doing it for a long time -- long time, they keep doin' it, and spread out, spread out, and let their head run on out there. And you can feel a cricket's head at about a hundred yards. You know, you can feel a cricket's head at about a hundred yards, and I really mean that. And if you can feel a cricket's head at about a hundred yards, how far do you think this is reachin'? The way you tap in to the great spirit is to relax -- and to appreciate. Appreciate --another word meaning put value into - . . to make precious. And make precious these trees that are around us and this grass that we're sitting on. Make precious the very rocks and the dirt that the grass grows out of. When you expand and become large in yourself, and large in your soul, and know that you are a large thing that reaches out a long way ... you have to reach, you have to make the first reach . . but if you reach out, you can tap in to the universal spirit . to the great spirit ... to the divine ground of all being to the one mind in which all of this is an illusion and a dream. And you can tap right into it, you can tap right into it just by knowing it's there and reaching for it . . -and it'll reach back. That's how you know it, cause it'll reach back. I went to a Ravi Shankar concert one time. While he was tuning, in the beginning, he tuned a string, and then he tuned the same string again. And then he tuned the same string again. And I thought, wow, man, he's tuned that same string three times in a row. If he does that again, I'm gonna begin to wonder if that's not some kind of communication. And he did it again. And I said, Far out. And he did it again. And it got where all I had to do was know it . .. that he was gonna do it, and he'd do it. And then when I had that connection with him, I felt his presence. And I said, Don't worry about me here in this auditorium, I'm just sendin' all my juice up there to you, cause you're gonna do this thing ... you know, and put that on him. And he said it was okay. And we felt it. And then he started tuning another string, and it didn't have anything to do with me. On this string he started tuning, he tuned it several times too, but it didn't have anything to do with me. He was tunin' somebody else. That sitar's in good enough tune to play when he brings it on the stage. It ain't the sitar he's tuning, it's the audience. Because Indian music, and tuning, is such a loose thing that any piece of it can become an ad hoc affirmation for a telepathic communication. You dig? Any little piece of it can be, yeah that's a signal, yeah that's a signal, want to dig that, that's a signal ... because that's just how God talks to you ... that's just how God talks to you. And you can stand out in the woods and you can listen to the crickets ... hundreds of crickets around you . . - and you'll hear one of 'em talking to you. And you'll listen to him, and he'll do it when you want him to ... as long as you want. Cause he'll communicate with you, if you relax and let your head go out there to him. Don't hold your thought in small on yourself . cause the crickets are like assistants that God puts here for us. We got lots of 'em. That's what your attention is like -- what you put it on will get heavy. What do you want to get heavy? Do you want streetlights and the signs on Market Street to get heavy? If you spend your time on Market Street, that's what will get heavy. If you spend your time cooped up in your square walls all the time, then being cooped up in four square walls is what you'll be making heavy, and what you'll be putting value into and be manifesting. And this planet needs us ... it needs everybody, but it needs us, because for a start ... for openers, to try' to prime the pump. Got to go out in the country and start putting our attention into trees ... manifesting this, putting our juice into this, because this is what is the real thing, this is what's keeping us alive. These trees, and those artichokes down the coast, and me, and the dirt, are all the same all the same stuff It's like there's a real meaning to the word ecology that's sort of lost in the idea of the science of ecology. You notice how communism, for instance, is like Christianity without believing in God. See, in Christianity you're supposed to share things with people because you love him and because lie's God. hi communism you're supposed to share things with people because you ain't no better'n lie is. There is something higher than ecology, because it's like to ecology as Christianity is to communism. And that's the native tradition of love and worship and appreciation of the environment that you live in as a manifestation of the living God. And you take care of your ecology because it's your flesh. Give me an apple. Sacrament. ..flesh of my flesh. A sack of brown rice has about an eight-inch white aura. Pure consciousness, man, pure consciousness. No ego at all, just brown rice doin' its thing -- brown rice, brown rice, brown rice. The important thing is the structure of the mind and how we as individuals relate to our creator. When we understand our relationship to God, and then understand that all we're here for is to get straight ... we ain't got anything else to do, all we're here for is to get straight. And if we get straight we will groove. We get straight so we can groove. The important thing then to learn is structure ... the structure of your own mind, how does your own mind work. Learn what is the way that your head reacts in every situation. Being raised in this culture, with the presuppositions of this culture about the nature of the mind, means that you were programmed in your youth with erroneous information about nine chances out of ten. Clearing the subconscious is nothing other than the complete re-programming of your own head, and you have to take the job in your own hands and do it yourself. The best thing you can depend on is somebody who will tell you the truth. If you find someone who'll tell you the truth about where you're at, hang on to 'em, don't let 'em get away. And practice telling the truth, because we haven't been taught a very high value on truth in this culture. We have to place value on truth. We have to be scrupulous in truth down to the finest detail. Letting something not quite true slip past hangs you up for awhile ... until you get straight with it, in fact. We need to understand that the kingdom of God is within us, and that how we can get in communication with it is up to the choice of our own free will. They say that you can sin against the Father and you can sin against the Son, but the sin that hangs you up is to sin against the Holy Ghost. And the Holy Ghost is that network of compassion that exists between all sentient beings ... it's the level where we're just like the monkeys and we're just like the dogs ... just like the birds ... just like the waves and the trees and the grass. If you shut yourself off, it'll take you a long time to get open again. And you have to make a commitment to stay open.. . and help other people stay open. The way you help other people stay open is to help them relax. Don't do things in ways that put other people uptight. Pay attention to the whole thing that's happening around you. Like I've seen people sitting in a crowd this size decide that they were alone, man, and turn on the transistor radio real loud to some place else, man, and they were gonna sit there and listen to the transistor radio alone ... you know, and deny that palpable sense of oneness that is here. We should be able to work together and hand each other all the right tools all the time without talking. We really should, because if everybody's paying attention to the situation, everybody knows what's needed all the time, and it comes up automatically, you don't have to ask for it. And you can check in on the level of, that you know what's going on and admit that you know what's going on, cop to it, be responsible for it and help it out if it needs help. Most of what we call by names like emotion, and personality, and ego, and all that stuff, is fancy names for the way we move our energy around ... for what we do to get our energy, for how we put our energy out. Someone who takes in more energy than he gives out, people say, is full of ego. That just means that he's got input goin' all the time ... takes in more juice. I was talking with somebody earlier, and I came to the place where I decided you could almost say, if it's a good vibration, vibrate it, and if it ain't a good vibration, speak it ... don't put it out as a vibration. If you're angry at somebody, say, I'm angry with you, man, don't go rowrr, you know. You can't even go rowrr a little bit, you know . . like most of us would never think of coming up to somebody and going rowrr with a real big anger blast wide open. But we have like polite society and a refined culture, so you can move your lip a quarter of an inch, you know ... and give 'em one of those, just show 'em one fang, you know ... you don't have to do the whole thing. And that's subtle-plane for the same thing. Subtle-plane counts too, you can't have no bullshit on the subtle-plane either. Like if you're gonna get cool, it means body, speech, and mind. Body, speech, and mind. Every movement of your body is a gesture of dance ... a mudra that has meaning, that is sent out and read by everybody's subconscious. Every word you say has another meaning besides the one you think it does, that is read by everybody else, as well as the one you think it does. And every thought you think is telepathically shared by everyone else. If you're gonna be cool and get cool, you have to know what your transactions are on every plane ... you have to know what your telepathic transactions are, you have to know what your mudric transactions are . how you touch somebody, how somebody touches you do you pull away when you're touched ... you know, things like that, you got to understand all that. You got to see yourself as others see you. That means you need help other people's help, cause that's who sees you. Prayer is telepathically communicating to your fellow man that you really are sincere in your desire to straighten up. And if you do communicate that, then your fellow man will help you in every way, and you will have, what they say in English, good luck ... which is good karma, the accumulated credit-debit balance. (Q) If you plug up the holes in your bucket you can get high on your own energy. One man's energy is enough not just for one man to survive, but for one man to stay high. And you get a lot of other people high if you work at it. If you get high from plugging up a hole in your bucket, you stay high . . - on that one, you don't come down on that one no more. (Q) In my sense of the word appreciate, do I mean to appreciate technology? Could we appreciate technology? I think we could appreciate a minimal level of sane technology, but I cannot find it in myself to appreciate General Motors. Or Westinghouse. Or Convair. Or General Atomics. Or day-glo colors. Dig where day-glo colors come from ... in nature, where do you find day-glo colors in nature? Things rotting ... things rotting is what gets day-glo colors in nature. You know. Flowers have a different color of color from that. I think that technology is a mistake, actually. I think technology is an ingrown speed trip that mankind got hooked on, because if you step out for awhile and take a look from a distance at a day ... you know, just get outside of one about eighty or ninety miles and dig it for a few days ... and find out, what do you need ... you know. Like I come into the city to see you people, because we meet here ... because it can be a central meeting place for us. And that's what a city could be good for a few people living in it, also trying to live out of it. Like we got to decentralize a lot -- that centralization is a giant speed vibe ... too much, too much in one chunk ... desensitizes you. Like you can be eating all the fanciest food you can think of, and not be having it do anything for you. It can be a bore. And you can eat ten days of brown rice, and then eat one slice of fresh red Bermuda onion . and it will blow your mind. When I first started smoking grass, I smoked like fairly low-grade smoking weed, cheapest I could get. I been smokin' grass seven or eight years or so, and over seven or eight years I sort of like got into gettin' better and better weed all the time ... you know. And then I got to a place where I was like smoking up twenty-five joints of honest to God Acapulco gold a day ... twenty-five numbers of gold a day, man. And I'll tell you, you can get higher on one number of gold a day than you can on twenty-five. You can get a lot higher on one number of gold a day than you can on twenty-five, really easily. Cause when you get high you get high ... and you come on. Like I think that we tend to devalue grass a little bit by tokin' up and runnin' out to do something else ... you know, and don't sit down to come on. When you turn on you ought to sit down till you come on, and relax, and let it happen to you ... and don't do it when you got to get up and do something else right away. Cause it's a waste of it, because it's a precious thing . sunshine energy that God puts in a green plant ... and it'll help us relax and open up. Like grass is really a miraculous thing. It's one of the things that helps you relax without desensitizing you. Tranquilizers help you open up to a degree, cause they make your insides numb, so you can't feel how uptight you are. You know. That's one way. But a little grass can like open you up and leave you compassionate. I have about two hundred and ninety-nine pages of transcripts from the meetings at the Family Dog. I'm gonna put them out all in one piece. The cover's gonna have Michael's mandala poster on the front. The back cover'll be a picture of the Class. It's really necessary to do that, because like there's a whole lot of stuff in there that's really true, and really needs to be understood, really needs to be paid attention to. Like a lot of that stuff came past so fast that I didn't see it all the first time myself. We were averagin' thirty typewritten pages a night at the Family Dog. And a lot of that stuff I got to see really close and look at it for the first time Then I read it in transcript. Cause like the stuff that's in answer to here and now questions comes right out like a slot-machine. You pump in a question, an answer comes out, I have very little to do with that process. It's gonna be a funny kind of a book because it's not in any order. There's all kinds of information, and all sorts of ... you know, in the order that the questions came up over a period of a couple or three months. That's called gestalt. That means that the structure of the book is a teaching aid to being non-linear ... learning how to work your head in more than one dimension at a time. (Q) Here is one of the heaviest manifesting forces of mind assembled on the planet. Like a lot of things turn out the way we want them to, just because we want them to. And if we get together about what we want, then it'll get more that way. To manifest peace, you do not oppose with arms ... or you do not oppose by political action, because those are confrontations. To manifest peace, you be peaceful. You be peaceful real strong ... that's how you manifest peace. (Q) That's sort of a revolution-financial question. The trip is you don't have to do anything to tear this system down, cause this system is so corrupt it's just falling down ... you know? You don't have to tear the system down, all you got to do is stay out of the way. You know ... just stay cool. Be friendly and nice. Be nice to the man you buy gasoline from, because you might have to buy gasoline again some day. The thing is, some people are afraid. They've been put uptight by a lot of strange things. They shouldn't be uptight ... you dig. Nobody should be uptight because it puts uptight energy into the universe and makes everybody a little bit more uptight. Defuse those people, they're only scarey when they're scared. You dig? They're only scarey when they're scared. Don't be scarey. And you don't have to be scarey. Like I'm not scarey to folks I run into ... and I look, you know, I look just as outrageous as anybody. But I'm not scarey. You got to pay attention to your medium-message ... of how you come across to folks. And you can be any way you want to, as long as you ain't scarey. You know? If you put people uptight, you're gonna carry a circle of uptight energy around you that sooner or later will be triggered into psychic or physical violence. I've done everything that anybody in this community has done for the last four, five, seven years or so ... actually longer than that. I had my first coffee-house in San Bernardino in 1958. I had a coffee-house, it was a jazz joint. Most of the people that came were on diet pills ... and black coffee ... black sweaters, right? Remember that trip? I haven't been hassled, I haven't been mistreated. Usually I get smiled at, and taken care of fast and efficiently. People at stores and places I deal usually like to relate with me for awhile. It's because I work at doing that. If I see somebody wants to ask me a question about our bus, and say, Where'd you get a bus like that, I'll stop and give 'em a five-minute trip about the old used-bus lot ... you know, tell 'em how it works ... and give 'em a handle to hang on to. Cause if you got good vibes people want to relate with you, and all you got to do is give 'em a handle. If you give 'em a handle, they'll forgive you dopin', they'll forgive long hair, they'll forgive funny talkin', they'll forgive funny sex trips, they'll forgive anything, as long as you ain't scarey and on an ego trip, you know? That's why you can do anything you want to do in this world right now. You don't need to make a revolution to do anything you want to do. I regularly do what I want to do. I think what I want to do now is secure this meeting ... if I can. God bless you and thank you so much for coming down here, you really got me high today, and I love you. Hang around here, I'll be around a few more hours before I split. Thank you for coming. Everybody want to AUM a taste before we break up? I saw some horns today, some interesting horns. Anybody want to blow horn with me for awhile? AUM
