Memorandum of Understanding between the Alliance of Digital Humanities Organizations (ADHO) and the local host institution of Digital Humanities A. It is not intended that the Memorandum of Understanding should be a legally binding contract, because it is not envisaged that the host institution and ADHO would enter into litigation in the event of a failure only of rights or responsibilities set out in the Memorandum of Understanding. The Memorandum of Understanding is intended to have persuasive effect and provide moral authority in the event of a breach of rights and responsibility. B. ADHO has approved the bid to host Digital Humanities from as set out in the Appendix to this Memorandum. The host institution and ADHO therefore agree that Digital Humanities will be held at between . C. The host institution agrees: 1. to designate a local organizer (LO), and designate a replacement LO if the original LO becomes available. 2. that the LO is responsible for the conference web site, provision of facilities, the production of a book of abstracts, a special dinner at the end of the conference, any other social events that the local host thinks would be appropriate, and, overall, the smooth running of the conference. 3. to set a financial budget for the conference. The conference is entirely self-financing through conference fees and such sponsorship or other financial contributions as the local organizer is able to arrange. No financial support is provided by ADHO or its constituent organizations, except in relation to the recipient of a major ADHO award, such as the Busa Prize. 4. to set three levels of registration fees: members of ADHO constituent organizations, non-members, and students. The difference between the fee levels for members and non-members should be no less than the cost of an individual subscription to ADHO's main print journal, LLC. fee 5. to notify ADHO without delay if the LO becomes unavailable or if the host becomes aware of any other event which is likely to prevent the conference taking place on the dates and in the location agreed with ADHO. D. ADHO will provide: 1. guidance to the LO based on experience of organizing previous conferences and of general custom and practice at Digital Humanities conferences 2. software support for managing the submissions, reviewing and registration processes. 3. assistance with the distribution of publicity material.
